With 2007 almost over, how about we post what movies and/or music we enjoyed most/least in 2007. Let's try to limit ourselves to stuff that came out this year, but I won't tell your mom if you should post older stuff you only recently discovered...

MOVIES

-PLANET TERROR - without a doubt my number 1 movie of the year. Insane fun!
-300 - only came out here in march so fuck you all, it's going in the list! The most fun you can have with glistening half naked men...
-HOT FUZZ - Just plain funny.
-TRANSFORMERS - Probably the most spectacular movie this decade.
-HOSTEL - PART 2 - A worthwhile sequel.

Furthermore I really enjoyed: Ghost Rider, Simpsons Movie, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Sunshine and Death Proof... ...and the incredible 3D effects of Beowulf...

More as I remember them...

MUSIC

I discovered heaps of new music this year, but I'm not quite sure if any of those bands had CD's released in 2007. Let's just say I bought most of the backcatalogue from the following bands this year:

-Angels & Agony, Combichrist, Funker Vogt, Assemblage 23, VNV Nation, Icon of Coil and one particular enjoyable older CD from Klinik.

And a couple of, I guess new, releases from the following favorites of mine:

-Front Line Assembly and Velvet Acid Christ

TV SERIES

I have to say BATTLESTAR GALACTICA continues to be one of the best series I've ever seen...

As of yet, I can't remember any really atrocious things I've seen of heard on purpose but of course, must pop-music I've had pumped into my ear drums at work has been of dubious quality. And I simply don't watch TV anymore, so that's one less irritation in my life...

Best Movies
* No Country For Old Men: Outstanding writing, direction and acting. One of the best this year.
* 300: For those hoping to return to the glory days of popcorn escapism, few have done it better in the last few years.
* Ratatoullie: A throwback to animated movies that don't rely on toilet humor or crude jokes to tell a story. Well written, fantastically animated, funny and sweet all in one.
* Sunshine: Oddly paced and curiously directed, this thriller harks back to the subtle terrors of 2001.
* The Bourne Ultimatum: A fine end to an outstanding (and arguably poorly photographed) series that brought a cold war icon into today
* 3:10 To Yuma: a harrowing western with outstanding acting and direction

Worst Movies
* Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters: a show that is a series of non-sequeters makes a poor theme for a movie.
* Captivity: I can only hope that this marks the end of Horror-Porn movies.
* The Invasion: Not even a good remake of a horror classic.

Best TV
* Battlestar Galactica: excellent writing, smartly directed, does what SciFi does best: ask serious questions about today in the guise of an alternate future or past.
* LOST: beginning of season 3 was bad, end of season 3 more than made up for it
* House MD: I wasn't really a fan of this show until last season. Well written, actors who seem to have real rapports with each other (and have TALENT), and snappy dialog.

Worst TV
* Heroes: A controversial choice to be sure, but the finale of Season 1 was bad. Kring and staff do a decent enough job of building tension, and then totally suck at the reveal. This trend continues into season two with an already bloated cast growing, inconsistantly written characters, just-plain-dumb storylines, and an abbreviated wrap-up that basically pushes a huge, deus ex machina reset button on the entire series. I'll be finding something else to do with my time on monday nights, like slamming my head repeatedly in a car door, since that will be more productive than watching Heroes.

Music I've discovered and enjoyed...
* Boston: I've always been an arena rock fan, but Boston always slipped under my radar. With their great song Foreplay/Long Time on Rock Band, I've come to really enjoy their musical stylings
* Garbage: when they were popular, never really got their music. Now I have...lovely...
* Yeah Yeah Yeahs

BSG for TV though some episodes last season had lame scripts. I suspect that the early success of the show drove up costs ...... fill in the blanks. ;)

30 Rock rocks as does Chuck. Never got into The Office, my loss, but whenever I catch some of it I find it brilliant. Similar feelings for My Name Is Earl, just substitute hilarious for brilliant.

Worst TV is cable news. Events that are life and death get broadcast with an entertainment sensibility. The establishment holding the whip and the anchors and executives rolling in the dough from the tax cuts.

Movies: I respect The Bourne Ultimatum. That's about it off the top of my head though I will say that Jodie Foster is still one fascinating chick/actor.

Lots of good stuff I'll maybe mention later but I'm tired right now from my first reformat/reinstall in several years. What exquisite frakin torture, lol. :)

Best Movies-
No country for old men- nuff said
Lust: Caution- because we all love long movies with naked asians. Plus, the story was fascinating and it was fantastically directed. Ang Lee makes pretty movies.
I might get ragged for this- but I loved 28 Weeks Later and Silent Hill too- they're just my sort of movies.

Worst Movies-
I didn't go to see any, but I was really disappointed that they made another Saw movie.
Oh wait- Ultraviolet was fucking awful. Why did I sit through that?

Best TV
Battlestar Galactica
Pushing Daisies- A surprisingly interesting show, with a perfect balance of whimsy and morbidity.
Dexter- Because it's amazing

Worst TV-
The new intro to Law and Order CI- I still love the show, but the intro feels like everything was doubled- music and imagery alike.
Although I watch it, Dirty, Sexy Money feels like a cheap soap opera. I just watch it for Peter Krause, I swear.

Best Music-
The new NIN album (can't remember the name)
In Rainbows- Radiohead
Crane Wife- Decemberists
Ga ga ga ga- Spoon

Worst Music-
All of the emo shit that they play on the alternative stations now. Actually, every new release that has had a lot of radio air time I pretty much hate.

Worst TV: Doctor Who (Screwing with Marthas feelings and the big LITERAL reset button at season finale), Torchwood (incompetence can only go so long...), Heroes (see the Torchwood reference), ANY movie made on the sci-fi channel, Cartoon Networks "Chowder", Inside Jimmy's Head, Comedy Centrals "Mind of Mencia".

Best Movies: meh

Worst Movies: Pretty much all of them. Shaky cameras do not = !Happy fun action!

I can't agree with 8 and 9 and I haven't seen any of the other movies on that list...

Revolver has become my favorite Guy Ritchie movie and I've seen it at least half a dozen times by now (of course, it was released here quite a while ago), and I just love everything about it. The way it looks, the way it sounds, the way it's cut together, Andre 3000's über-cool, Ray Liotta's nuttiness and Sorter...

Hostel 2, while not as "funny and entertaining" as the first, is nevertheless an interesting horror flick, especially in the way how this part shows you the side of the perpetrators instead of just copying the previous movie but having girls instead of guys. Certainly doesn't deserve to be on a "worst movies of 2007" list, even if you didn't like it...

More as I remember them...

And I remembered some more...

Great:
-Shoot'em Up: Probably the movie I laughed the hardest with in the theatre this year. Probably laughed even harder with Planet Terror, but I bought that on DVD before it was in the theatres here, so I never went to see it...

-Zodiac: Fincher made us wait a long time, but we did get a tense movie to make up for it. Now all that's left to do is wait for the SE DVD coming out in 2008...

-The Departed: Actually came out in the very last week of 2007 here, but I went to see it the night of the first of january because I arrived at work and I was the only one there. Apparently we had that night off but nobody informed me while I was on vacation the whole month of december. It was basically the best remake of Infernal Affairs one could have hoped for...

-Crank: Way over the top, but funny as hell...

-Resident Evil: Extinction: Not only way better than expected, but simply a pretty kick ass zombie flick with a sublime birds hommage scene...

Furthermore I mostly enjoyed: Curse of the Golden Flower and Apocalypto

Movies I was disappointed with:

Spiderman 3: WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED? This movie wasn't very good. Contrived plot, inexplainable happenings, fucking up long established plot points and wahwah I think I'm gonna cry...

Blades of Glory: Big Will Ferrell fan, but this movie didn't tickle my funny bone as much as I hoped it would have. And while Ferrell was still pretty good in it, Jon Heder keeps on annoying me to no end...

1408: Due to overwhelming positive feedback about the scariness of this movie, I couldn't be but disappointed at this movie's tameness. Has nothing on good Asian suspense...

Another one I almost forgot and I rather liked: Die Hard 4.0

How could I forget?

I watch little TV and few movies these days, so all I can say is Lost and Pirates of the Caribean 3, heh. Can't help you on music, unless Ass Ponys put out a new CD I'm not aware of.

POC3 was aighhhtttttttt but a little stale. It needed more old skool jack sparrow who seemed like an afterthought in the movie once he was rescued from dining in hell with the Spartans.

Superbad.....while I enjoyed the premise of the movie it was kinda slow at times. Plus I got a copy of the McLovin License with my DVD..lol

I'm gonna have to go with the Copmiester on 300 and Transformers.. mmmmm good stuff

Hot Fuzz is setting on my stack to view

Bourne Ultimatum......wasnt the greatest of the 3 but it had the flow

Live Free or Die Hard... still had that ole magic and the hardcase hardcharging

Nope, was a good movie. Not as good as the first two, though the second wasnt as good as the first. But it was still a good movie, easily watchable and enjoyable. Though I'll go with EG on this one and say too little Jack and too much focus on the love thang with old Orlando and Kierra whosits.

The first one, for the record, was probably the most perfect 'summer blockbuster' movie ever. Also, the third one was a little heavy on the gratuitous violence for a Disney pirate movie, but then Disney mostly sucks now anyway so this franchise was a total ncie surprise for me from them.

The 1st Pirates was pretty good.. not great, but good. The 2nd Pirates was disappointing. I never bothered with the 3rd since I heard it wasn't as good as the 2nd.

Transformers, 300, Curse of the Golden Flower, and some the others Cop listed (of the ones i've seen) were on the order of very good to greatness. :bigthumb:

As others have stated, Blades of Glory and Ultraviolet were gawd-awful. :D

Movies

300 - Kicked ass... the most beautiful depiction of bloodletting I've ever seen.

Die Hard 4 - It wasn't total faeces but I was a tad disappointed.

Not many movies were IMO 'great' this year... Although I haven't seen D.P or P.O.T yet!

Television

24: Day Six - Very good... Not quite as much of a thrill ride as season 5, a little
to much petty office politics back at CTU slowed shit down.

The Wire - I'd never seen this, it not having been picked up by any UK station.
Three seasons in and I'm hugry and f**k for season 4 now... Only it's
not out on DVD until March 2008!

The Sheild - Shown at the start of the year (Season 5) Not the best of the run so
far and the ending/cliffhanger was a little weak but shit, it's the
freakin' Shield! STRIKE TEAM FTW!

Doctor Who - Amazing until the last... Opus, did you manage to peep the Children In
Need special with Davison? It cleared up a few issues re the last scene
of the series... DVD Boxset coming Xmas, Woot!

Heros - I enjoyed the whole thing... Roll on Season 2.

Music

MF Grimm (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mf_grimm) - The Hunt For The Gingerbread Man (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hunt_For_The_Gingerbread_Man) Dope. That is all you really need to know.

Akala (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akala_%28rapper%29) - Freedom Lasso The second album from one of the UKs best rappers... It was, different... Hip Hop sampling Siouxsie & The Banshees? The Cure? It worked! :headbang:

The Wire is amazing. Easily the best show right now. Season 5 will start airing this spring, I can't wait.

Season 4 looks like it's gonna be good... I found it very hard watching 300 to hate that Senator bastich... :mecry: Jimmy, how could you!
