I'd say the last officials with dx8.0. I'm not sure I think the last ones were 1.7 or something....

I don't believe they made a DX8 driver for the banshee did they? It's been a long time since I messed with one of those.

Didn't the banshee use v3 drivers too or did they have special drivers for it?

from what i remember the 2d core in the v3 is the same as the banshee, but 3d i dont know...

if the drivers are dx7 compatible instead of dx8, would that be a terrible problem when using opengl games??

do q3 based games still use glide in 3dfx cards?

Not really dx7a would be fine too. I recall using the 1.07 (if my memory serves me well) with dx8.0 on the v3 without problems.

Quake2 and up use openGL only. I hope he doesn't expect anything extraordinary on a banshee....

Banshee was not the V3 or the V2.

The V2 was a hardware accelerator. It required a seperate 2d card for everything else.

The banshiee was the first 2d/3d card from 3dfx. It was the first one they made that did both. It had it's very own special drivers. It could not use V3 or V2 drivers. I do believe that the best you could get was DX7 support... not DX8.

Tell him to get a new card. Those were terrible. They didn't perform any better than the V2, AND they are only 16-bit color. No 22, no 32. My brother had one. It's good for say servers... but any game made around the same time as, or after Q3 will not run for crap on it!

Tell him to quit being a cheapskate, go over to www.ubid.com... they always have good deals there on vid cards.

They weren't THAT bad. Lol. (Some banshee configurations even rivaled the V3 in benchmarks.)

This whole discusion is putting me into a rather nostalgic mood.

/me fires up a game of Quake.

As I recall the banshee/V3 drivers were bundled in the same package on several releases. But it's been a while...

That would be news to me. Cause when I got the Banshee drivers for Ibanez (he barrowed my brothers card one week when his went out), I had to get specific drivers for it.

You may be confusing the V3 1000 with the Banshee. The V3 1000 was only avaiable for a short time in a white box. It was an underclocked V3 with no heatsync/fan.

I can tell you for sure that the Banshee drivers and V3 drivers are not the same (I had both). Tell him to grab GLSetup for it so that he can run Q3.

Nah, I think I was thinking of the Linux 3dfx drivers. Lol.

i see... never went to any biddin sites (like ubid or ebay...) i always thought i canīt buy most stuff from down here anyway...

im gonna see what can i get for him, as long as it plays it will be ok... heīs the kind of person that if the game dont work, he blames the game, if it works slowly, i might have a chance of gettin him to get a new card

nah... ubid is good. you buy from a warehouse, not a person. But, they started this reserve crap that is pissing me off.

Thats' where I got a brand new GF2 GTS 64 meg DDR card for 111 bucks 8 months ago when it was still going for 230 everywhere.
