Anyone picked this up yet? Release is Sunday but I saw it at Circuit City today while looking for the Warhammer Pre-order.

It's already released on EAStore.

Cell Phase is really fun.
Creature Phase is fun.
Tribal Phase isn't so fun.
Civilsation Phase is not fun at all.
Not sure about Space Phase yet, I'm up to it, but haven't had a chance to play it yet. Don't expect an indepth game here, it's pretty basic.

*edit* Space Phase seems pretty good actually, I think they spent the majority of the design time there.

I enjoyed it up until I realized how lacking the combat system is.

Yeah, combat system is bad. Playing a herbie is better since atleast you get to play a simon says game.

 I basically zerged my way into conquering the first 3 starsystems the first few hours I had it, going to try the others soon. Religious seemed pretty comical, low happiness makes it easier to convert enemies.

Gaming money is tight at the moment (especially with OMGtober coming up - Rock Band 2 and Little Big Planet), so I'm hoping a demo of this one pops up. It's too much of an unknown for me to buy it blind. >___<

Space is my constant running back and forth to defend my stupid colonies, grr. It's so expansive, but gets annoying fast.

Just bought it last night for the wife. Played it to the creature phase. It seemed easier to progress in the cell phase by being a herbivore. I threw a bunch of projectile pods on his back and went around shooting other creatures. Seems fun. I found a rogue dinosaur looking thing, with 250 hp so he's my muscle and side kick. Seems ok. Won't get to play again till maybe this weekend.

I'll prolly get it eventually... trying to save up for Rock Band 2 atm

Enjoying it atm, although I just got pwned by some other creature and now I'm just back at this shot of one of my creatures staring at the nest. An egg is there in the center and I can do nothing. I've saved and restarted the game but its still there, I'm guessing that I have to wait for this egg to hatch.

Exciting!

I think I'm going to make a grass growing or paint drying simulator...

Here - let me save you some time - give me 20 dollars, I'll take you out back kick you in the balls - then show you a two and a half hour SD Discovery channel broadcast dealing with mitochondria - then I'll kick you in the balls again and throw salt in your eyes so everything looks blurry.

That's a pretty good representation of final gameplay - at final levels - I'll do all of this while holding a picture of Will Wright and play one of his interviews where he goes on and on about how innovative his games are - I'll wash out your salty eyes with Starbucks espresso - so you get the whole pretentious yuppy side of it.

Despite it sounding harsh and painfull - it's all probably easier than playing Spore

I like how you took the time out to mention that it would be a "SD... broadcast" and then talked about pretentious people. Ironical satire?

Perhaps he meant "Super deformed" not "Standard Definition" :dunno:

Space stage was fun, until my planet started being attacked nonstop. The combat isn't fun enough to be forced into doing it continuously.

Since you can't build a decent fleet (but can comically clone new ships instantly) I ended up pussing out and allying with all of my nearby races. Then, I did what I enjoyed and terraformed the hell out of my star systems, buying most of my allies out in the process. Terraforming planets was my favorite part by far. Have atleast one uber turret on every planet, rofl.

This game was supposed to be the second coming of Wright - according to all the Wrightians around the globe - you'd think he'd make something that didn't look like ass....blurry ass!

And yes, welcome to 2008 - where providing content in high definition is the new defacto standard! Learning to embrace technology is what seperates us from our parents - I'd be equally annoyed at anyone who offered statements like:

"You know....56k is really like broadband, just narrower"
"Cellphones...psh...there's one on every corner and that only costs me .35 cents"
"VHS is just as good as DVD"

There's a difference between being pretentious and just up to date. Pretentious people go on and on about things like:
"It'll change the way you look at games" - Will Wright, speaking about Spore

Lowers the amount of space events.. e.g being attacked nonstop by enemy civilisations/pirates.

I'm not arguing with you, complaining because a game is only offered in SD is pretentious as hell and thats the end of it. Complaining of a game's graphics is pretentious as hell. Spore could look like fucking Populous but if it played like they described I'd still play it.

I'm not arguing - I just don't think it's pretentious to ask for a game that doesn't look like ass in 2008. Spore is HD - it's just that rendering out someone's hairy butt in HD doesn't fix the problem - it's still just ass!

Complaining of a game's graphics is pretentious as hell
Why? If games graphics don't matter - then everyone should still be enjoying plenty of games on their 8-bit Nintendo and Atari Jarguar's right? It does matter!

Ok, props for brining up Populous - but even still - it stands to evidence that Spore could never play like "they describe it" - according to Will Wrights interpertation - little cherubs come out and pour liquid joy all over your giblits - sadly the reality is that it pours liquid shit down your throat then makes you swallow - all while looking like the afeormentioned hairy butt...in SD...ok, I couldn't resist!

lol, actually they do.. there always re-packing old classics and reselling them, because they know they will sell better then newer "shinier" looking games...

its like a car, a car can look sweet but drive like ass, while some cars look like garbage but has it where it counts, making them fun to drive.. only girlmen are wow'd by fluff but the real men know where it counts :bigthumb:

Ya, show me one example of a compilation pack outselling even a shitty new game (barbie horse adventures excluded) and I'll concede that your right. Compliation and shiney repacks get sold because we like to try and re-buy our youth - and sadly - we keep paying for it! If anything - these just show us how rose tinted our glasses really are...
