:)

Hey, for us 56k modem users every little bit helps. ;)

Pages load even faster and the gui feels snappier. It installed right over my older version and now my microsoft Intelimouse "back" and "forward" side buttons work within it. It's a beta but it's nice so far.

Ugh, I don't have the link on me. If anyone needs it I'll dig it up. Cheers!

What the hell is Opera? Cool name at least, and since I am on a 56k I could use all the help I can get (although i will be switching to 256 DSL in 1 month)!.

Thanks.

What's the difference between Opera and IE?? Is Opera just better/easier to use or what? Can you tell that i never have heard of it before.

Opera is a nice alternative web browser. Umm, you might want to look into it if you've never used it before.

Opera is a fine browser. Most people have been using IE so long it's uncomfortable switching to something a bit different. Overall I think it *is* a better browser. It's faster, more secure, and much more configurable. It also has some neat features.

You can run them both. Download it and try it. Let it sit for a bit and try it again. If you still don't like it then you can always uninstall it.

I like it and use it about 1/3 of the time. Unfortunately I'm a M$ zombie though so I haven't switched completely... but I should. You can also use it in Linux.

Opera 6.0 is the greatest browser to date. And I'm not just saying it because I have something againt MS, I used IE for several years, but I was never really satisfied with it. Opera 6 seems to be great, it works with every page, doesn't have server errors like IE does, and most of all, MDI interface. Gone are ad popups :)

On a side note, have you folks noticed that the 3 major browsers are at version 6? NS6, Opera6, IE6? 666? Could it be the work of devil?

That is scary. I'm now switching to "Offbyone", lol.

It sounded great, a nice small browser with no integration so it won't hose you (hopefully!) if it crashes. Then I saw it was Homepage ware. Uhoh. It may still be cool and I'll download it but let me know if it changes your homepage in your other browsers or if it "phones home" or sets itself up as a server and installs spyware.

Lol, I hope that doesn't sound cynical but ME SCARED. :)

All in favor of making msan_ewu our official "test subject" raise your hands.

One... Two... Three... well, there you have it msan, democracy in action.

Congratulations! ;)

No, no, no... lol. I've been using Offbyone for some time now. It doesn't have spyware or change your homepage. Let me quote what you may have seen:

The Off By One Web Browser was created to demonstrate the speed and light footprint of the Webster Pro family of Web Browser Controls from Home Page Software.

Webster Pro Controls are available as either ActiveX objects or pure DLL-based Custom Controls. They enable you to easily integrate an embedded Web Browser window, similar to that of the Off By One browser, directly into your MS-Windows application, and with no dependencies on any other browser.

Webster Pro Controls can be integrated into applications written in VB, VC++ or any other Windows language or development environment.

That's the name of the company not what OBO does, lol. It's a cool, free, and handy little web browser with no spyware or homepage ware.

BTW, that was a joke too. OBO is for techs and not surfing. It's really good when you need a small browser to take with you on the road when you tap into phone lines and haxOr people.

j/k:D

Hahahah... just want the FBI to enjoy SC too!

"You are about to download the Opera Web browser. All desktop versions of Opera 5 and 6 are free!"

"Upgrading to Opera 6.0 for Windows is free to users who registered and paid for Opera 5.x for Windows.

Note: Users who registered and paid for Opera 4.x for Windows can upgrade to 6.x at a discount"

so, is it free or not?

ive been thinking of using something other than IE5.5, but i dont like the new netscape, i read around here that flash didnt work with opera, does it now?
