I don't remember; I was always too busy having fun to notice.
Are there like any shadows in the game at all?
There are, but it's the Oblivion engine.
I thought Fallout 3 was better than New Vegas, but New Vegas wasn't bad by a long shot either. New Vegas was developed by another studio, tho.
Skyrim is great, better than Oblivion. :)
I hope they make a Fallout 4 on the same engine.

I liked New Vegas a lot more than Fallout 3. Because it was made by Ex-Black Isle employees it felt more like a Fallout game.
Skyrim is overrated, Morrowind/Daggerfall are still better. And Oblivion sucked, so that's like smelling better than a dog turd.

i'm gonna say i liked them both about equal but give F3 the edge since after i completed it i just sat there saying wow. it was truly an awesome game to me.
FNV is also great but when i played it the first time it took me a long time to get warmed up to it. it took really long to become interesting. lots of early step n fetch its and no one and nothing to really care about along the way. it wasn't until i had to turn the girl over to the gun dealer brother n sister crew that i even gave half a shit about what was happening. an it takes a while to get there and be in a position to protect her.
the thing i really started liking about FNV was the options that started becoming available. i didn't finish it but i am guessing eventually a war breaks out between caesars legion and the rnc? is it? forget their name at the minute but the republic not bad guys. i wont call them good guys since they're more or less bullying everyone else with their so called protection. which in a way provides a real dilemma cuz when you go listen to caesar tell his side of things i for one kind of agreed somewhat. and that was when i was playing a good guy role for cripes sake.
the only thing that snaps one back to the reality of the dude is his overall mantra of crushing anyone who can be crushed and in the area there are a lot of people who fall under that boot. but then you think about what the rnc is doing and you have to wonder what is the diff really. if either of those sides wins who is it really good for? certainly not for those trying to independently survive in that world.
then there is the lucky 38 and the matrix freak there. do i help mr house become unbeatable simply to spite the other 2 sides? cuz i know in my heart mr house is no good and out for nothing but power over the area. but then again anyone protected by new vegas wont have to deal with the other 2 knuckleheads as they brawl it out. and either side would wind up smoked by the upgraded robots unless they came into some serious weaponry. which wont happen if i recruit the w/e the fuck their name was at the AFB with the artillery.
so yeah FNV kicks a lot of ass with the story and thought provoking choices that need to be made. the first time i played i came to the conclusion that all 3 sides sucked ass so i killed mr house and was gonna run vegas myself. that was when the xbox left for a new venue and i could no longer play. this time i'm not sure what i'm gonna do. i may have to go all the possible routes in diff games to see how each one turns out. if i can that is. i'm sure even 2 run throughs could wind up a chore so i'll see.

Iron sights.
i dunno wtf it is but i cant hit shit with iron sights. i have a prob in L4D2 as well. motherfuckin zombie standing almost on top of me and i am missing. shit freaks me out to no end. i used to be hittin shit in DoD back in the day without even trying. i was a mobile sniper when i grabbed that class. i could stop n pop mofos like it was nothin. and when i had a garand omg it was wtfpwned city. i just cant seem to hit what i aim at in those 2 games. really annoying.

You probably just suck, I usually end up with around 60% accuracy in L4D2 for the entire campaign, most kills, least damage. (Actually steam stats say 88% accuracy across 50,762 shots with Military Sniper Rifle, and I don't use sights.. 90% accuracy with assault rifle across 22,608 shots, 85% accuracy across 31,744 shots with AK47.. I should probably stick to L4D2 I think)
Skills come into play in Fallout NV. It's not as skill dependant as Fallout 3 as you can actually hit things outside of VATS, but if you have no skill in a weapon, the iron sights will still miss IIRC.

well i started playing FNV again for the first time in awhile and i figured out why i stopped. because i am totally consolized for certain games now and the mouse n kb just wasn't cuttin it for the fallout games. i tried it again last night with my xbox pad and man i got lost for about 2 hours. it was like slipping into an old comfy chair with a bowl of the greenest heaven and just dropping the fuck out.
anyway, it's cool to be playing FNV again the way i like to since i didn't get to finish the first time. :)

I have both. Ive tried both.
The intro to F3 was very good. Then I got into megaton, did all the stupid easy quests and got my ass handed to me at the supermarket.
The intro to FNV was boring. The characters were flat and emotionless. Very little intrigue.
Looking at the sunbaked world is tiring too, everything melts together. I know its a nuclear wasteland but come on. Does everything have to be that dirty yellow color?
I want to like them, I hear they are both amazing - but I cant find the will to.

just so ya know, new vegas has loads of intrigue once ya get goin. you get real choices to make in the game that actually matter. especially when you get to new vegas. last time i played i was at the point in the game where it was time to make a stand or go along. unfortunately i lost the xbox and am now starting over. but i'm still not sure what i'll do when it comes around again which it will. the choice is truly one that has to be thought about before made. you also have to predict how each scenario might play out because really, none of the choices are great but only one of them is straight up for bad characters. the others are very gray and can go either way. kinda nuts if ya ask me but fun nonetheless. ;)

best thing to put points into is sneak. if you wanna get around and get over quick sneak is priceless. you will be able to sneak around and right up on enemies before they even know you're there. it also gives you ample time to come up with an attack plan when you are faced with multiple enemies.
there are also talents you can get that improve your sneak abilities like running while sneaking and not setting off traps that help immensely. just make sure your agility is at least 6 to be able to use those talents. the agi also helps your gun skills so keep those at a moderate level but don't go nuts trying to get your gun skills to 100. so many other things help more than wasting those points.
oh and luck is an awesome skill. high luck raises your skills across the board. it's one of those wonder talents imo because it makes you a lil better at everything. good luck can cover limited skills yanno. ;)
btw do you have the GOTY edition of F3? i ask because if you do then don't try the extra shit too soon or you will wind up dead a lot. those came out later so they were more for players who already had high level characters. and the one DLC that takes you to the island is ridiculous hard. i had to turn the setting down to easy myself for that part cuz there is a mission you have to do where bad guys just wont stop coming and they are damn near indestructible.
1 more thing....don't sweat the strong back perk. once you get a homie you can make that mofo carry all the shit you aint gonna use right away. sidekicks are pack mules with benefits. ;)
OH! and have fun dude! :nana:

Fuck that shit... you're schlepping through the middle of fucking nowhere with a full pack at 275/280 and a Deathclaw rapes shit out of your mule... who's carrying 180/200... The game is usually pretty good at 'remembering' where bodies/shit are but it's by no-means perfect.
Not worth the risk IMO... AFAIR the only 'follower' I've used is Dogmeat; but he decided to Pearl Harbour a Sentrybot outside the library like a fucking retard so I've not had him for some time (and rarely took him out when I had him).
http://images.wikia.com/fallout/images/9/9b/FO3_sentry_bot.jpg
I've given guns to people during missions before; usually shit like the regular-assault or hunting-rifle... just so that they'd act as bullet-magnets and give me the chance to get in closer.

The stats and skills in this game are unlike most. I feel lost with it. I went back to the vault exit save I had and reset for the following.
S - 5
P - 6
E - 5
C - 5
I - 7
A - 7
L - 5
I considered taking away a charisma point and putting it twoards luck but eh. Kept strength and endurance at 5 for strong back.
Took small guns, sneak and repair as my three skill choices, but I figure I'll want to build up medicine and lockpick too.
How important is speech in this game? If its rarely used I'll probably ignore the skill and take the charisma point for luck.

How important is speech in this game?
I'd say it's pretty important; although it depends on your play style... sometimes it's as easy to convince somebody to give you something as it is to blow them away and take it.
Don't sweat teh stats... all abilities are augmented during the game by obtaining 'Skill Books' (eg. 'Tesla & You' improves 'Energy Weapons' / 'Tales of a JunkTown Jerky Vendor' improves 'Barter'), by using certain weapons/clothing/accessories and when you 'Level Up'.
Stats Info - http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_3_SPECIAL
If I was to start again I'd focus on 'Lockpick' early (along with 'Healing' / 'Repair')

Well I read around and apparently charisma is all but useless. The perks that require it are shit and you can still raise speech to 100 if you choose.

IIRC Speech can sometimes open up the dialogue tree and you can learn extra details.
Also, very high speech can alter some key decisions by some characters.

I went with a high charisma/speech and perception bias; pretty much all my abilities are at 100 now, some in the high 90's but my melee/unarmed are piss-weak... I steered away from energy-based weapons too, I think that's a low 80.
With my regular kit (Ranger Combat Armour, Lucky Shades, Red's Bandana, Lucky 8-Ball, Yew's Charm) I can get my luck up to 10!

I bought all of the DLC for FNV last time there was a sale on it... I think I ended up paying like $14 all together, but it was a great deal for how much stuff I got.
Unfortunately, FNV crashed after a few minutes last time I played it. And it appears to each time I try to play it. Could be drivers, could be the game itself, not sure.
Man, I went back to replay F3 in the past 2 weeks or so and actually am playing it right now! I never beat it the first time around so that's my goal. I picked up Dogmeat almost first thing, love that mutt.

Are you guys plagued by crashes? Its getting really annoying! I found the fix about the multi thread issue which cleaned up a lot. Now I'm dealing with what looks like a video driver issue. BSOD in which I can just make out nv4??.dll Google turns up hits on this specific fallout 3 crash but I found no sure fire fix. I've dialed down the graphics settings to low low low and I still get it.
Anyway, just wondering :P
edit - BTW Dogmeat SUCKS for stealth so I dont think you missed much jedi.

I dunno, but I get crashes in New Vegas too... not BSODs, just dumps to desktop.
Fallout 3's probably not really supported much by Bethsoft anymore, but my best guess is it's newer graphics drivers that cause crashes in these older games.

Too lazy to quote people.
There is a huge mod out for Oblivion that combines 3 other huge mods together that makes the game MUCH better. It changes everything about the shitty leveling system, mobs, you name it Its got a bunch of os in it called OMOO or something like that do some googling you will thank me.
Also Daggerfall which still has the best atmosphere of any of the elder scrolls games has an updated engine being worked on with beta 1 coming very soon:

Also Elder Scrolls online is coming out soon. I am looking forward too it but also nervous. The people who made Dark Age of Camelot are working on it and while I still play DAOC on a free server the people who made it have absolutely no idea how to balance classes in a game.
Any good PvP game will have classes with strengths and weaknesses. However in both DAOC and Warhammer Online, both made by the same company, there is always and overwhelmingly powerful side/class and they never fix it.
For example DAOC was a 3 way war, 3 realms that fought and one of the realms, Midgard, is just straight up better then the other two realms by a longshot. I never played Warhammer Online but talked too people who have and it followed the same trajectory as DAOC. Nerfing the shit out of things that aren't overpowered, never buffing underpowered things, and just general making for a rage inducing experience that makes you not want to play the game.
ugh the textures in that image look like Xbox360 graphics.
