Try this:

username: anonymous
password: anonymous

You can only log in one session. So if you're browsing with your navigator you can't login with the FTP program. Quit the navigator before connecting with gFTP.

What are you looking for?

The mirrors will help you with standard iso's and RPMs. But the latest software may be found at:

ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/rawhide/i386/RedHat/RPMS

And, yes... Red Hat's FTP is very busy all day long. Common web browsers may have problems to connect, but FTP programs behave much better (Cute FTP, gFTP for Linux, for example...)
