Arc the Lad: Hunters and Monsters is the first DVD in the series. It contains the first 3 episodes of the series. I like most people have never played an Arc the Lad game. The Arc the Lad Collection is coming out for the Playstation later this month (the 16th if it doesn't get pushed back, it's been pushed back over a year i think). If somebody has played the game then they'll probably have a better idea of the storyline then i do at this time.
I've yet to watch the 3rd episode cause i came out to write this review hehe.
Story: 9/10
So far the story is just awesome. Main character is a hunter named Elk. He is a young man with alot of spunk and a ton of power. He can cast fire spells and use a halberd type weapon with ease. As a hunter he is like a bounty hunter. He does odd jobs for money like killing badguys/monsters or rescuing somebody. His first mission (where the series starts anyway) is to sneak aboard a recently hijacked airship (a big blimp). Inside the airship he finds a bit more than he thought and is almost killed by a weird creature. He meets a mysterious young girl who has a monster as a pet. I wont say anything more as to leave some of it for you to find out :)
Animation: 8/10
The animation is fluid and looks good and the character designs are quite decent. Some scenes seem poorly done but for the most part it looks very nice.
Sound/Music: 6/10
Sound is fine but the music seems a bit overdone and weird. Perhaps it's memorable music to those who are familiar to Arc the Lad but to me it's just annoying at times.
Extras: 3/10
The only extras on this DVD are a couple of trailers for other ADV dvds. I give it a 3/10 because unlike most other dvds you can skip right to the menu right after you press play. It's very nice :) No waiting through 2 minutes of animations from ADV, Emotion, Dolby, whatever.
