well, these are the only two anime I've seen completely in a while (I've seen parts of kare kano, for those of you who are romantic comedy fans... kinda hyper, but definitely a cute anime)
Jin-Roh, which I watched at the UT anime club. Excellent movie. I didn't like Ghost in the Shell too much (excellent animation, art, etc, but I didn't like the story too much) so I wasn't sure about watching Jin-Roh. Great movie. I'm not sure how much Gibb allows people to say about the plot, but it has an excellent twist, and the ending happens just as it should.
As for FLCL (furikuri), being a fan of evangelion (a lot of the eva staff worked on this one, so I've heard), I already loved the art and character designs. The main character (forgive me, I don't remember names) looks a lot like Shinji... and Haruko reminds me of Kaoru... I think this is Yoshiyuki Sadamoto's way of finally hooking Shinji and Kaoru up. The plot is a bit confusing, it makes sense in the end but it's still pretty weird. I dunno what's with the hands, the head-transportation system, or the fetish with the eyebrows... but what I love about this anime is the animation.
Excellent animation. The style is VERY cartoony, a lot of takes and very expressive. The loose, fluid, and relaxed animation fit in perfectly with the comedy, and make it very fun to watch. I caught myself saying once that this is the best animation I've seen.
