At work today somebody traded in two DVDs for this anime so i just had to check out if it was any good. I had never heard of it and i've never even seen a dvd published by TokyoPop. I thought they only made soundtracks. So anyways i picked this up from work (with the ability to return it if it sucked).
Story: 5/10
The story is rather bland, boring, and cliche. It has alot of guys drooling over girls and freaking out while they blush. Basically the story is about Onizuka. He is an ex biker gang rebel with a 2nd degree blackbelt license. He's 22 and has a fondness for highschool girls in short mini skirts. He wants to be a teacher so he can be close to high school girls. The story revolves around him being a teacher and getting into trouble cause of stupid stuff he does or pranks students pull.
Animation: 3/10
The animation is very poorly done, character designs are ugly and the facial expressions look like dried up old people that makes you sick everytime you see em. Animation isnt really fluid and appears low quality most of the time. The most fluid animation you see is in the opening and closing scenes, which are boring. I was surprised to hear the opening theme song which is "Driver's High" by "L~Arc~en~Ciel" which is one of my favorite japanese bands.
Extras: 6/10
There are some line art sketches as well as some short clips of Onizuka's facial expressions. If you like those ghastly clips then these extras are good for you. There are also some previews of other TokyoPop published anime series including Initial D. I liked seeing that preview cause i've heard good things about Initial D but have never seen a bit about it. It seems to be a weird motorsports type of anime with alot of CG mixed in (sort of like Blue Submarine 6).
Overall: 4/10
I was able to sit through the whole thing and enjoyed parts of it, but for the most part it was just awful and i'm gonna return it to my store tomorrow morning.
