Funny when nVidia launched Detonators, they make it to the testing labs and front page news of the likes of toms hardware, anandtech, firingsquad almost immediately...

With Catalyst, only a few sites even bothered to cover it (so far). So far, only knows of hardocp and hardware-one that made a review, and beyond3d for reporting it...(not counting the obvious Rage3d, of course ;))

Man!

AH, but remember, the wonderous detonators came with a 50% performance gain, remember???

Heh, yeah. Somehow, I find myself moving away from those "big sites" to the lesser ones nowadays. The smaller ones kinda remind me of the early part of the internet, u know, the "power to the people, freedom to report the truth, blah blah."

Hardocp at least dared to challenge once a while (both nVidia and ATI)...

But...but with Catalyst, the 8500 actually matches the Ti4200! Oh well, guess that won't go well with the "sponsors" :D

But over here, it's amazing how many people still holds onto really funny notions. For example:

1) Ti4200 is way, I mean way faster than the 8500 (fellow will almost always say that with a swagger, "yep! Mine's bigger and meaner...").

2) 8500 is outdated man, outdated. Ti4200 is a newer chip, and therefore better.

and yes, the last and evergreen one:

3) AMD CPUs? Not very compatible with the software I use, right? Also not stable, right? I've always used Intel only...
:headbang:

Good for you!

Maybe I'll get my cousin to get the 128MB for me from the States when he visits me next month, and sell off my 64Mb here.

Why?

US buy.com price: ATI 8500 128Mb at USD168 shipped

Here, same 128Mb 8500 card costs the equiv of USD288!!!

The 64Mb version alone costs USD191!

So even I sell my slightly used 64Mb version for USD170 here, I still get USD2 back :D
