I originally planned to use Windows ME (my current OS) with my new Athlon XP system, but would XP render better performance with the system? AMD says to use Win XP with the CPU, but I don't know if thats just a marketing ploy for M$ or not. What do you guys think?

I already have a ...free... cd of xp pro. Got 2 questions that will probably determine weather I upgrade or not.

1) Have most of the networking issues been resolved?

2) Can I keep fat32 file system when upgrading, or does it REQUIRE NTFS?

you should use winXP regardless of the processor, as its the only OS worth a damn on the market anyway.

I agree with MB.

And NO, you aren't required to use NTFS. But if you decide you'd like to switch later, winxp will do it for you... automatically.
without losing your files.

I'm unaware of ANY networking problems with winXP. Can someone clue me in on this?

big note here: back up first. just in case it does mess up going through it.. (i've seen it happen before, but it did involve someone tripping over a power cord at a most inoppurtune time....)

FYI any NT based Winblows system, unlike 9x, has very good networking utilities/tools. :D :D :D

ok, i'll probably stick with FAT32 (cuz i dont feel like backing up over 15 gigs of shtuff) my main problem last time I installed xp was the fact that the other 5systems in my place were running 9x, and the XP system couldnt connect (file/printer share) with the 9x systems. anybody heard of an issue of this type? I heard someone mention having a problem something like this a while back.

Noooooooooo NTFS shouldn't be used on the same partition as the OS :P :P :P

my hdd is partitioned into 2 sections. if i stick with fat 32, i'll keep both sections as fat 32, if i switch to NTFS i'll keep both sections NTFS

I've had no problems with XP connecting to the 9.x systems, but getting the 9.x systems to be able to access the XP system had been a bitch
