View Full Version : WTF, Gamespot is going to hell the same way IGN went!
I gotta pay them to see some "High-res" screenshots of a game I would (technically) have to pay for to see the real thing in REAL high-res, I am talking 1280x1024 with 4x FSAA, instead of a 640x480 screenshot, in action?
This is bullsh*t! I was pissed when IGN started this crap, but all that respect I took away from IGN and gave to Gamespot, now I have no respect for those ass-midgets!
I know Gamespot's probably been like this for a while, but I was gone for a good 2 months and I saw gamespot starting to charge for "high-speed" downloads and I didn't care cause I didn't care about downloading demos. I think this is pure bull sh*t and it's probably gonna get worse, and since no one can do anything about it but boycott those cock-jockeys, I am gonna shut up now.

Bandwidth costs money. Ad banners don't work. It's as simple as that.
So in all honesty I wonder how long anything on the Internet will remain "free" - and how much longer broadband will stay affordable, considering the growing number of people (ab)using it...

Gamespots best feature used to be the 'free' pdf game walkthroughs, better than the official Prima style ones. Now you cant get them unless you are a paid up member.

Of course, I don't like it either but the simple fact is that many companies are coming to their senses and realise that ad banners aren't profitable enough and bandwidth costs are going through the roof. Sites like GameSpot, which are visited by thousands - sometimes even hundreds of thousands - of people on a daily basis need to find other ways of keeping afloat. Honestly, you really can't blame them - it's the only way they can stay alive.
And really, what's 10 bucks a month for all the downloads you want, huge archives of previews, reviews, walkthroughs and specials, plus the latest important news on games? It's pretty good VFM, not any worse than that of any mag.
we are all just use to most everything on the net being free... ... its gonna be hard to start forking over money to view the contents of a site which was at one time free.
always remember, that if you look hard enough, you can find for free that which others pay for.
