You know I've been doin' alot of experimenting in DOS lately and I'm building an MP3 Player for my car usin' DOS. I've seen some guys use Linux like Slackware and was wonderin' how that all works considering you have to mount and unmount your stuff.
The one I saw was Slackware runnin' XMMS and he hooked up an LCD screen in the front so he could see his playlist.

First things first, DOS is DEAD. Unless you have a 286, don't bother with DOS. Use Linux or BSD.
As for mounting and unmounting, partitions are usually mounted at boot time. I'm not sure about CDs, but I believe supermount takes care of (un)mounting. I'm not sure since I've never had the need for suce a program.

Well I really like that guy's MP3 system that's runnin' Slack. Plus w/ his wireless access capabilities, it makes adding songs in the car a snap. I just don't think I know enough of Linux to make it work.
