Story: 5/10
Animation: 7/10
Sound: 6/10
Overall: 6/10
Note: What?? No Extras Rating?? I feel that an Extras rating is unnecessary as most extras are only on DVDs and not all anime reviews I'll do will be DVDs.
Story: 5/10
Okay, I'm a HUGE fan of the original Bubblegum Crisis and I must say that this series disappointed me. ALOT!!
The story actually starts out quite good and makes you ponder lots of things, like why is Sylia psychotic and who is the main bad guy?? Well these questions are answered much later in the series, but by then characters who play a huge role are now minor characters and the main bad guy will confuse the ever living crap outta you. Plus w/ no Largo (main bad guy in the OVA) it kinda makes for a very dull story. Along w/ that, the ending just kinda drops off like a brick and makes you go, "Well what happens next??" Apparently the only similarities between this one and the OVA are the names and ideas.
Animation: 7/10
While not the greatest animation I've seen, it's definitely well deserved. The redesigns of the characters from their original 80's counterparts are well received and still keep their styles like the originals. I'm sure most of the loss was from the fact they had to work on a TV budget and not a Movie budget.
Audio: 6/10
I wasn't too keen on the audio in this updated classic. It's got more of a techno feel than anything, while the original was dubbed "The Original Japanese Cyberpunk Class", you'll find no punk or rock songs in this series. The opening theme song and a couple others are very much like Rock, but most of the other songs are soft ballads while the short audio clips of background music are mostly techno beat.
Overall: 6/10
This series would be much better if it weren't for the downhill story near the end. Plus w/ the lack of a real bad guy makes it hurt. If you've ever seen the original OVA where Largo appears and fights Priss in the Red Eyes episode, you'll understand how much of a d!ck he was.
My suggestion if you're interested: Rent the whole series first before deciding to add to your collection. The end of the series is what hurts the most.
