ok, heres the deal. i LOVE anime, but i rarely see anything good. i need some suggestions on whats good and where i can get/watch it. to those who HATE DBZ, i agree...its repetitive, but if it wasnt for that and how Sayins are THE thing and humans, nameks, and...whatever Tien is became nothing, itd be a good show. thats why i am into writing and reading DBZ fanfics that break the repetivie cycle. anyways, if anyone could help me, id love you forever::sarcastic::

Well it all depends on what time of anime you like to watch. My personal favorite type is Romantic Comedy. Here are some of my favorite series in their various categories:
Romantic Comedy Series
Kimagure Orange Road
Love Hina
Ranma 1/2
Hand Maid May
Strawberry Eggs
Oh My Goddess
Chobits
Inuyasha
Sakura Diaries

Action Series
Cowboy Bebop
Steel Angel Kurumi
Rurouni Kenshin (the 4 oavs known as Samurai X Trust and Betrayal in the US)
3x3 Eyes
Devil Hunter Yohko
Blue Seed
Berserk
Blue Submarine #6
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Record of Lodoss War (First season)
Initial D

Movies
Ninja Scroll (Action)
Escaflowne the Movie (Action, Romance)
Jin-Roh: the Wolf Brigade (Action)
Perfect Blue (Phychological Triller)
Ah! My Goddess the Movie (Romance)
Vampire Hunter D (Action)
Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust (Action)
Blood: the Last Vampire (Action)

Well that's quite a hefty list. I also hate DBZ so we might have similar interests in anime. I like almost all types of anime except stuff that is rediculously stupid like DBZ, or stuff that has incredibly awful art like Angel Links. My all time favorite anime series is Kimagure Orange Road but that might be very hard to get ahold of for a newbie otaku. Your best bet would be to try to rent stuff like Evangelion or Berserk at your local Blockbuster.

Also, search through the anime forum for various reviews members have posted over the last several months. I always put a blue Arrow icon next to my reviews so they're easy to spot.

Can't believe you left out these classics:

Akira
Ghost in the Shell
Robotech (1š series)

As for the rest, I'd add the following:

Serial Experiments: Lain
Gasaraki

But those two are not easy to follow. Try to borrow them, though.

I think stuff like Sailor Moon and DBZ had a bigger impact in anime's dispersal to american. I used to like SM back when there was nothing else to watch. I never liked DBZ tho and still absolutely hate the series.

Hmmm i forgot to mention Akira and Hellsing in my post. Also, if you're into really slapstick zany stuff you should try Excel Saga or Trouble Chocolate. Excel Saga is an anime series that makes fun of anime. Every episode is different. Trouble Chocolate is about a guy who wakes up next to a living wooden doll girl. Pinnochio with an anime twist. Also you might wanna try eX-Drivers if you can find it to rent anywhere. I think they have it in blockbuster.

Hmm.. I forgot to mention Inuyasha also..

I like the unique and different animes, the ones that not a lot of people watch.

...not a lot of people... what?

Armitage is awesome, as well !!! The dubbed version is actually very good (or I liked it, at least). Spriggan has some real kicka$$ animation (action/more action).

Now, here's a no-no:

SIn: The movie (too short, way too gory and doesn't make much sense of anything).

Spriggan was pretty cool. The story kind of falls apart but it has some really kick ass animation sequences.... well if you leave out the part where Yu throws a sword across the town to take out a camera :/

I just finished watching the entire Chobits series last night. I'm gonna post a review as soon as i can figure out how to take screencaps of .avi files. It's an awesome series if anybody wants something new to check out. It's not released in the US yet tho.
