View Full Version : I have a bad feeling about Two Towers

What do you guys think about upcoming Two Towers? Things I heard so far have been less then encouraging: "much more action focuses"; "much bigger departure from the book" (considering how far the first one drifted, this sounds very bad"; "love scenes", etc. I was reading an interview with Jackson and I got the impression that he has pretty much given up on being faithful to the book and instead went for action-filled crowd pleaser targeted squarely at mainstream.

Well, it was not really an interview, rather an article in Time

Considering I hated the first LotR, I'd say I have a pretty bad feeling about Two Towers too ;)

I didn't like the first one too much, so I'm not even going to bother with the second one. It might be good, I dunno, I'll wait for the DVD (just like the first one).

It gets more and more action oriented all the way through and at a larger scale i.e. armies and stuff.

I thought about reading the books again but I passed knowing that they'd spoil the movies for me. The movies, as long as they are well done, can stand on their own. Rarely can you make a movie as good as a book anyway because then the movie competes against your imagination... a losing proposition in many cases. Movies are also limited due to time and thus the ability to have all the information contained in the book. If the book could be read in two hours then maybe....... I think I'll seperate the movies from the book and let each stand on their own merits for the most part. I happened to enjoy the first one and didn't see why I should allow preconceived notions to spoil my fun. I think people need to recheck their expectations and see if they're even achievable.

The first movie was pretty true to the book with the exception of Tom Bombadil and the gift giving scene ( which was put back in in the extended DVD) and some other minor scenes which would not have contributed much to the movie.

Mr. Jackson has a 3 hour limit to tell a fairly long story. I think he did a good job with the first one.

I eagerly await the second film.

BTW, I have always defended the first movie and plan on seeing the second one - I just find it disappointing that instead of addressing the biggest issues I had with the trilogy the movie might further expand upon them.

I doubted the first one and I was blown away with how great the movie was, I think this time I'll choose not to doubt it. Apparently he is taking big liberties with this movie, but he did so well with FotR, even though he changed many things with it, that I don't think he can really screw this up. I want to see RotK more than anything, but I'm sure I'll like TTT.

much more action focuses - The second book has more action.
love scenes - There are love scenes in TTT, and there were in the FotR movie.

I'll rest easily. :)

Well based on the article, the second film will be more action-based. It never said it would be based so looser than a baby tooth when you're 11 years old off of the book that for those who read the trilogy it isn't worth watching. Personally I thought the original release of Fellowship on DVD was alright but the Extended Edition was tenfold better. I think The Two Towers will be a strong adaptation of the book and a movie I'm definitely using my free ticket to the The Two Towers to see. And even if I didn't have a free ticket I'd still see it. Of course that's just what I think and that's up for debate by everyone else I guess. I am out!

Ive read the books, really liked them. Watched the movie, really liked it. I have no doubt I will like The Two Towers. Sure it may not follow the book word for word, but these movies are the best Fantasy movies ever released. I think people fret over the books too much. Just enjoy the damn movie for what it is.
