Finished d/l'ing CS 1.1 client last night. Didn't get a chance to play yet. Just logged onto WON and checked the servers...2000 ! Holy shit Batman.

Know what I'll be doing the next few nights.

Any tips on gameplay ?

Is the damage modelling realistic (as is DoD) ?

When I'm up to speed we'll have to form a crack SC squad (SC crack squad, heh) as I know quite a few of you here play quite a bit.

Well, I'm quite the CS player, and the 1.1 patch changes quite a few different of the levels - Aztec has the most noteable changes.

They cleaned up some of the textures and the models, along with altering some of the damage models for the weapons.

Again, the biggest failing of the game is the weapon physics - you cant go by the ricochets to tell where your rounds are falling.

The biggest tips I have are:

Walk more than run. You are less likely to be heard and can keep an eye out for enemies

Crouch when firing. Your aim will be better

Aim for the knees. All of the guns raise up the more you fire. Therefore, if you aim at your opponents knees, the weapon will move up and maximize the number of rounds that land on your opponent.

Those are the best, general tips I have

Wolfeman those are good hints, but I can tell you from playing since Beta 1 that these tricks don't work.

Always walk around Paleduke, try to *discover* the amount of distance for someone to hear you. Sound is everything, a good player can hear someone coming and knows exactly when to stop running.

Always switch to your knife or pistol if you want to run faster.

Do not strafe-jump, jumping forwards and turning sideways at the same time gets you farther especially when going around corners.

Crouching when firing is a myth people think is correct. Crouching doesn't really do jack about your aim, an AK fires the exact same way regardless of such ducking. However ducking can be used as an advantage when leaping around a corner and taking an opponent by suprise.

Always fire in bursts, never hold down the trigger unless you are desperate or hoping for a lucky shot.

If you know someone is about to come around a corner, start firing before you have even seen the enemy yet. Why you ask? Because the game is buggy and the *true* fact is that your bullets will begin to hit him even before you can see him.

Never aim at the knees. Always the chest. You get luckier with the chest. Aiming at the knees will only slow an opponent down and definetely not kill him as fast. Aim for the chest at all times and if your weapon is likely to recoil and move upwards, you're even more likely to hit him in the head.

Don't try using any sniper rifle without the scope. Unlike DOD it simply doesn't work that way.

If you run out of ammo in close combat, switch to your pistol and *MOVE IN* on your opponent. This way, if you fail to take him down, you can switch to your knife and dish out the damage.

the guns in cs take some mastering, they all behave differently (just like real life!) the length/weight/balance of a weapon effects how it aims. the crosshairs are differnt sizes, the recoil is all different.

basically just pick a gun and master it, then move on. the mp5 navy is an excellent gun to start with, its very light and easy to aim. you can move pretty quick with it and you will be able to take guys out with bigger more powerful weapons with your quickness. plus its cheap, and thats good, cus you will be dying a LOT!!

LOL!

I doubt it. I played CS a number of times. I think my spitballs hurt more than CS machineguns :D

Played for first time last night. As expected, I made a great corpse. I like the realistic game mode. Die, that's it untill next game. As I was almost always the first to die I took advantage of the freelook and wandered around watching others play. I'm sure after a few more games learning the basics I'll even get a shot or two off. Must say, between CS and DoD I won't be playing much else. Graphically both are smooth, have good net latency, even for my dial-up and gameplay is quite realistic.
