Great post noot ! I got on this morning and did some arcane runs in bloody games. Great XP, am level 49 too but still only at the beginning of Act 3. I spend far too much time running through Kurast at 200MF...lol.

Now you know what I mean by impending death now that you have good gear. It's all gone in a flash of red text...lol. :D What a thrill !

I just logged on again to keep my accounts alive... Last time i logged on was December 12th, so i figured all my characters should still be alive. Perhaps the servers are just slow tonight or something cause it seems all i have left over my 7 accounts are 3 characters. They're my three best characters, so i'm glad they're there, but none of the other ones are working right now. My barb with his high level stuff is still alive, my amazon with her windforce and stuff is still there, as well as my MF sorc with skullders, shako and other stuff.

Hardcore update:

Although not as fast a killer as TweakTweak my zon is a poison bitch and takes pleasure in watching her victims slowly die. UberZON is now level 75 and she killed Duriel in hell mode without breaking a sweat. I ignored the quests and made a beeline too Lower Kurast in Act 3 for some MF runnin'. I have that wand mentioned earlier and I socketed a Dragon sheild with 3 perfect diamonds for you. Make quite the combination those two will...

Lemme know when you're on b.net as my stash is overflowing into my backpack...lol. :D

I missed you guys this weekend too. I played my three accounts and took my necro up to lvl 42. Maybe this weekend I'll start a HC character... but I don't know what. I'd play a necro if we get together as a group. I can pretty much assure it would add to the parties survival if I was splashing some amp dmg curses and raising revives and skellies. If you guys are getting busy I might just fire up a Zon. Plus, HC equipment... ugh... I gots none.

Call me crazy, but I think the algorithims are tweaked for HC. I started out with NOTHING and my sorc is now level 70 with plenty of resists in Hell. Sure sorc equip isnt all that serious, but really...I'm not starved for items here. That never happened in SC.

The ring? Keep it :D My SC account has been gutted, mostly out to Crusty, lol. I'm strictly HC now, or at most starting fresh every time. There was a line crossed somewhere when I began hording all that stuff... I don't care to go back.

I still loathe and fear HC. There are probably two good reasons why:

1) I play Barbs. They get into hand-to-hand. Lag is very, very deadly in hand-to-hand

2) My play style is unrefined and near-suicidal at times i.e. I'm not very good and would lose characters like it was my job in life.

I'll stick to SC stamp collecting for right now...though I do plan on picking up MOO3 this weekend...

i tried to play last night but it was chocking something awful. It was probably my connection but it could have been bnets fault as well. It took me about 5 minutes to log into a public chat channel in Bnet. The player count took 2 seconds for every player for all 48 or so people in the channel.

Anyways i didnt get to play of course, but it definately seems like i've lost all but 3 of my 48 or so characters. No biggie i guess.

I was looking over my older characters in normal play and I can't believe I've lived as long as I have in HC. I have zero uniques, a rare armor, and my best item is a two socketed bow with perfect emeralds and PD game me the gems. Starting all over, lol.

Oh.... Bnet decided to whip some of my chars for kicks I guess. I didn't lose much and the only thing I know I lost was Trang Oul's armor... which I was gonna use.

Eh... The more I think about it the more I'm not a big fan of HC. I get mad enough as it is in regular let alone lose everything. If one of you guys isn't on I don't want to tackle anything tough or I'll lose all my equipment.. *poof*. With all the stupid arse LE's and other fun instadaeth and especially the infamous Bnet lag... I'll play but I'm not going to invest a lot of time or energy into building up a char. If I had a lvl 76 zon like PD and an LE jumped out and backed me into a corner and Bnet lagged out on me.... I might... I might... computer equipment costs too much money to play HC :D

Diablo II 1.10 is currently undergoing extensive testing in our QA department. The patch touches on almost every aspect of the game, so it has required the same amount of testing as when we released Diablo II: Lord of Destruction. We are also spending a lot of time looking at how the changes will improve the game for high-level characters. Now would be a great time for Diablo II fans to get some levels and save up those skill and stat points in preparation for the new items, new ways that spells work together, and the new challenges that are coming with v1.10!

Nah Eghad...he got my help and then died LOL. We whipped Mephistos ass somethin fierce, but then PD didn't hardly get two steps out of the Pandemoneum Fortress and he went down :( Sucks man. We were getting really damn powerful.

Corpse loot was on though, heh. My merc got hooked up :D...:( Smoke runeword armor and Sanzabi's(?) Grand Tribute helmet. He is now sporting nearly full resists in Hellmode, his defense is 1300 before he turns on his aura, and I have the runes to make him an honor lance too (((MEGA LIFE LEECH)))

All the loot doesn't make up for my fallen comrade though :mecry:

I figured I could at least take regular Meph... well, my run and gun poison tactic didn't work too well when I met up with Meph's giant balls. I thought I was quick but Meph's balls were quicker. One ball took out my merc and the other swung my direction and down I went....

In non-HC news I did some good mf'ing with my zon and found Duriel's Shell for the first time and some good merc equipment. Anyone gonna mule anytime soon? I found some good runes and need to get those stored. Ko, Lem, Fal, Io, Hel, and some more shaels and stuff.

My next HC is gonna be a summoning necro so I can just "raise and run" or a mighty fine Werewolf Druid. Never played druid and if they're badarse like folks say then that might be the ticket.

lvl 15 ww druid cooking... Haven't died yet and started pretty raw and running though Act I as fast as possible. Once you get a tad bit of life leach, a couple vines, a defense merc... well, you're killing with the quickness. I can't imagine how tough a druid will be at higher levels and without being "raw"... scary.

werewolf is too strong :) You know when you put the staff in in Act II just prior to meeting Duriel? I forgot to put my sword back in place and still whooped butt. When I hit HC I think I'll stick to a druid. It's almost hard to die if you have your resists up, lol.

Normal was almost too easy, even Diablo and Baal weren't much trouble. I'm ready to finish actI nightmare and it's been no more difficult than normal...so far.

The only trouble I've had to date with the werewolf/dire wolf build has been the mages in Act IV. When they're just off screen throwing their spells and you have no ranged attack or leap top close the gap, there's not a thing you can do but take hits. Especially difficult when spawners are blocking your route.

Word.. I've had that on my mind as well... I was thinking throwing a point in Hunger might be the way to go... -75% damage but the massive mana/life steal could help wade your way through that mess.. it would just take a long time. Never used it though.. wondering if you have?

Hunger is an odd skill. The life steal % is HUGE but the damage penalty is huge as well. I've found bumping up leech works just as well, and one isn't forced to dump prerequisite skills on the bear tree to get it.

I can tell you guys right now what the Druids problem is: Physical Immunes. No way to deal with em. There is the fire claws skill (on the same path as hunger even) but I think fire damage is calculated from physical damage dealt...which in a PI's case would = Zippo :( Not sure, worth research I spose. I've never developed that path of the tree because I didn't feel like wasting the points. I could be missing out on alot :D

As Blizzard frontman Bill Roper confirmed for us yesterday during a Vivendi Universal event, the coming patch is more like a second expansion set. Almost everything has been changed; only the character classes and the acts remain the same. The Californian manufacturer has turned everything inside out, from unique items to character skills to monster AI. A complete test cycle of the patch would last about 3 weeks, and the bugfixing makes many many such test cycles necessary. A main focus: the problem of "duped" (illegally copied) items.

Traps are your friend :) Remember they put all the enemies in stun lock allowing your quick claws top slice right through em. Lay dow a few traps before diving into a pack and watch them tumble with ease :D

I killed the Big D in nightmare without dying again. This seriously freaks me out, lol. Actually, I feel stupid. If I would have known you could use that top left corner of the center room to hide behind my zons would have faired much better with guided arrow. Generally it's 30 minutes of my dying as I run around trying to shoot off the odd arrow every so often, lol.

No biggie though. I've been getting stuck late at work so.... I'll try to get on at 19:00 PST, if not don't sweat it.

Assassin is a pretty dang nice char to play. Being able to cast Lightning Sentry just off the screen and being able to run away and wait for it to do it's work is pretty fun. You would think that was boring but I've found that I use much more pure strategy with an Assassin than any other char I've played... e.g. I had to find hiding spots to get away from Diablo and it's opened up a whole new world of strategies.... It's a lot like a zon but the Shadow is far more powerful and useful but you're still generally using arty. Martial arts assassins are kind of boring :/

Anyway... rambling... I'm gonna get a Barb up to lvl 42 then stick with hardcore until the 1.10 patch. I don't know what the patch will do but it will be nice to have a char in each class at a mid level (I think.. if you can use them). The survivability of the assassin, especially with a holy freeze merc, is amazing. The only thing I have a hard time with are those stinkin' Death Knights in the sanctuary or whatever they are... but who doesn't, lol.

Anyway, I'm gonna be on tonight right after dinner; 19:00 PST... about an hour.

Tonight I ran through Act V nightmare and whipped up on Baal. It wasn't that great.... Baal killin' is just like with a zon... Cast a Shadow, attack with ranged weapons... drink mana potion... repeat until dead, lol.

lvl 38 barb.... Did cows this morning for a few hours and gained a bunch of levels. Cows went well with a nice crew i.e. everyone had an experience where someone killed the king and all were going out of their way not to do it in our games. We had a lvl 80 zon helping out just in case... they were willing to stick around and help the noobs. Since I'm a barb whirlwind noob and I kept getting stuck in the middle of herds of cows it was nice! Anyway, a rare nice day with folks on bnet.. :)

I don't think I want to lvl a pally so this barb is the last one before hardcore. I think I'll play an assassin in HC as they fit my playing style... then we can team up. 4 more levels until Arreats for the barb then I'm done. Every so often I'll lvl the barb because he's gonna be my new mf'er in hell mode. I need to be able to kill hell meph to add anything worthwhile to my collection. Anyway, msan_hc_assin is about to be born, lol.

Well, that's that... Mission accomplished. Got a barb, druid, assassin, sorc, and zon all into HM and all have as good equipment as I can get for them...without hitting Ebay.. The pally just aint gonna happen. I get real tired of hack and slash melee dudes, no offense the the whirlwind barbs, hehe. Here on out it's zons and more likely assassins. That Lightning Sentry is pretty fun to play and makes life easy. Gotta love traps.

Technically, that's a bug though. Watching some uber-equiped bowazon shoot a dozen guided arrows with their buritto-cannon killing everything on the map. Sooooo much skill needed. :rolleyes:

I really enjoy the different tactics dictated by the current monsters and map, as opposed to a single skill with that kills everything, everywhere, ever time. I enjoy using a socketed poison bow w/strafe outside, fend and lightning fury inside and immolation arrow on PI's. Nice mix of the lvl 24/30 skills with whatever gear I've found/made. Very fun and challenging, for me at least. :)

The werewolf druid has been almost too easy so far. :O

I hear it's a bug too.. but it's a good bug. Bowazons would be fairly underpowered without it. Look at the other classes and they all have some powerful stuff... Sorc firewall does way more damage than my guided. If they nerf stuff like that they need to nerf LE's. There is just no reason a monster should be able to kill you so fast, lol. I'd give the monsters some better auras instead. Plus, they look cool and are more of a 'true' challenge.

i like lighting enchanted enemies. If you didnt have those, then ranged players wouldnt have anything to worry about. Plus i usually crank up the lightning resist so that those guys dont hurt me. What i think would be really cool is an aura that only hurts ranged enemies. like an earthquake or something that emitted from the monster, and the farther away from the monster, the stronger the aura.

Hehe, LE's are fun but those darn Sigon Dolls with Fanatasism will put a hurting on ya too. On mf runs if I see those in Durance I just exit the game and make a new one.... Which reminds me to add many more hitpoints to my next mf zon :/

The ranged aura would be good but I think they're going to make some monsters shoot ranged attacks much faster, like those imps in ActV. That's all I need, fire shooting imps hitting me with machine gun speeds, lol.

Normally, I don't have issues with lightning enchants, cause if I'm a barb, I have so much light resistance and absord it's not even a question, but when I play my sorc or zon, that's another problem altogether.

There are two types of lighting enchants: the normal, and the UBER.

The normal enemy sheds lightning like a cat does hair. The others are on a mission to fry your ass like a Texas grand jury. One hit and you are toast! Your only chance of surviving is a well placed 15% life leech arrow or serious distance (if you are a sorc).

To me, this is a bug and needs to be fixed. To the best of my knowledge, I was playing on Battle.net, not Huntsville.net. I have a sorc with over 1000 HPs, and she still sucks the cawk with monsters that are lightning enchanted.

I think the "uber" ones are multishot LE's. They put out what look like big thick waves but its really a bunch of waves on top of eachother.

I agree...LE's SUCK and suck bad. As do extra strong spectral hit fanatic aura's in hell mode. 1 hit kills no matter the HP level. Between the two I don't understand how anyone plays hell mode in hardcore :confused:

My latest playing style has been to quest solo in larger MP games. I'll join blood running games even though I'm only in act III as it gives great XP and is very challenging. Each game only lasts 5~15 mins but is very different from the one hit to kill play style of private games. My zon is only half way through the act and is level 26 already, lol. I'll "cheat" though and take on the council in a private game...:O (Hate those bastards).

Kind of. ALL hell mode monsters have 50% physical resistance and that is what goes away, but there will still be physical immune enemies. Works in players favor though even with the double hit points. Leeching will be doubly efficient, keeping you alive longer.

Darn MF Barb is going slow.... and fast..... I'm having a hard time killing stuff in HM so I just run past it all and will pick up the experience in cows later. I'm now seeing that Meph runs will be run past everything, jump across the moat, and attempt to kill meph. If there's any problems, quit and start a new game :/

Unfortunately I'm also getting addicted to runewords and cow runs. I don't need the experience anymore, just like rummaging through the garbage after the runs. I found Io, Hel, and Um rune yesterday just by picking through crap. I love my Um rune :D I may just hold it to show off, lol.

I'm not currently using the Windforce if you did want to borrow it. Reason i'm not using it is because it's requirements are insanely high, and it's too hard to modify the stats on a level 90 amazon and still have decent items.

I'm planning on making a new zon sometime in order to use the windforce, but right now i'm working on my new barb to use my Cruel Colossus blades. He's level 32 right now, so he's got a ways to go. Plus with all of my items except a few gone, i dont have much to work with on the lower levels. I'm still using Shadow Fang (unique two handed sword) on him cause i cant find anything better.

Bah.. I forgot about the 134 strength requirement... I have 140 but I realized I'd have to knock off 20 for the Titans :/ I may try to find a few +strength charms but no biggie.

I may make a new zon too... Max Fury, Guided, and 10 in Multi and then add extras from there into the passives and get a valk. I also need more life for HM mf'ing. Regardless, with all the garbaging I'm doing in cow runs I've got her up to lvl 90 now and using LF in cows with pretty good effect.

I still need to find a good dmg sword for the darn barb. I've found a few balrog blades but the strength req. on that is massive.

i have all those cruel colossus blades and such that i've never even used. I'm leveling up my barb so i can finally use the damn things. So far he's level 33, and doesnt seem to leech a single bit of mana with 6% mana steal. At 35 i'll put the unique casque on him (dual leech one) so hopefully that'll help a bit. Then at 41 i can put the unique grim helm (i surprisingly still have mine cause it was on the hireling of one of the 3 chararacters i had survive).

Hey noot, what are the best skills for the assassin, particularly for HM? I need to get mine going again!

I'll tell ya what I did, but I have uber equipment so my skill bonuses are big. Minimum +5 Martials +7 Shadows and +5 Traps, more if I switch to dual claws.

The only skills I maxed were Phoenix Strike and Claw Mastery. The third charge for Phoenix strike is suuuuweet, freezes enemies in their tracks unless they're cold immune obviously. The second charge (chain lightning) is the high damaging group killer but difficult to time out. I usually freeze em and then try to hit the lightning.

I put 10 into Tiger Strike too. Handy to take out the bosses quick style with pure physical damamge. At lv 15 it nets me 1140% damage at the thrid charge. My 1200 damage suddenly becomes 13680 to a single target. I guess thats why they call her an assassin :D I have noticed no one has gone hostile on me playing her LOL

Finishing moves are the big debate. See I think they suck :/ The only one with a decent attack rating modifier is Dragon Flight, but since it has a casting delay you wait for a half a second before it releases. The teleport can get you out of trouble though.

Dragon Tail was my choice for the added fire damage and the knockback, but the attack modifier is lame. Many times I need 2-3 kicks to get it to release. Fast enough, but very annoying. I only have 5 points added and 10 of my 19 levels from here to 99 will likely end up here. Waiting to see what blizzard changes ;)

I put 10 into Shadow Master. Makes a nice little tank when I need it bad and she uses supplemental skills like Mind Blast and Cloak of Shadows ALL the time.

I only put 1 point into burst of speed but its jumped to 7. I use it always. She's quick with out it, but with it on she is absolute lightning.

Even if your martial arts I would suggest putting some points in a trap or two. I put 5 each in lightning sentry and wake of inferno. Not only are they extremely handy for phys immune uniques, they stun lock the enemy just long enough for your claws to slice and dice. Its like mobile artillery. Not quite the same as a full fledged Zon backing you up, but dern near. Depending on what Blizzard does, I may pump my traps instead of the finishing move.

Thanks man! Looks like I was on the right track after all! I was just really confused about the finishing move aspect of the 'sassy (sassy assy :D ). I'm working on Phoenix strike--I agree with the freezing part! The meteor is great too, especially when the monsters are frozen. Heck, the assassin is more effective than the sorc with this spell! I've got a considerable number of points in Lighting Sentry and that corpse explosion trap (good for cows). I totally agree that sassy's are fun to play! I just want to get my skills right because there are some crappy skills on her...gotta stay away from those!

LOL :D I ended up with two nats claws. One paired with a Bartucs and one with Mosers Blessed Circle (awesome sheild). Dual claws are fun, but I like to survive heh heh. I would seriously suggest aiming twoards Nats set. It is fan-freaking-tastic, not mediocre like most the other class built sets. Some strat guide I was reading made the claim that it was the best set in the game - no question.

OH! - keep your str and dex pretty even. Her damage formula is unique and takes both into account. It works best when they are close to eachother, or so I've read. Just make sure you hit the big 117 req for Nats claw ;)

I'll make sure I keep an eye out for one. I run into one about every other day on nm meph runs but always just leave them layig there. I'm looking to grab a sigon's shelter if anyone sees it too. I had two of them yesterday and dropped them in a mule game and then forgot what the heck the name of the game was and couldn't get back in, lol. It was a joke game name.. something like "gogoduriel" or something when PD was killing Duriel in a hardcore game.

As soon as I knew something was going to die I'd run up and whirlwind and run around like I was doing something, lol.

BTW, I have had a heck of a time configuring hotkeys to use any finishing moves. How do you hotkey yours? I'd like to begin putting points in Pheonix Strike now that I have DS and LS where I wan them.

My assasin is fairly micromanaged, but it's easy to pick up the play pattern. First thing you may have to break your mind to is the instinct to place charges on left click and finishers on right. When I first read in a guide to keep ALL my martial arts on left click I thought the guy was crazy, but its absolutely true. By keeping the mouse button held down and simply switching the hotkey, you can cycle through charge ups and releases FAST.

F1 - Tiger Strike
F2 - Cobra Strike (i dont even use this anymore thanks to high leech)
F3 - Phoenix Strike
F4 - Dragon Tail

I keep my hands over these keys by default. That way its just *F3* pop pop pop *F4* BOOM. Or for added fun stack Tiger Strike charges on top of Phoenix ;) Early game stack Cobra and Tiger for BIG leech. For Phys Immunes cycle on and off quickly to drop a stream of meteors on the target :D Fun fun stuff LOL.

That leaves right click free for all your other stuff. I leave mine on Lightning Sentry by default, and ocassionally switch to reactivate Burst Of Speed or hand place my Shadow.

F5 - Lightning Sentry
F6 - Wake of Inferno
F7 - Shadow Master
F8 - Burst Of Speed

Hardcore is fun, but the heartbreak can be a killer :D It has proven to be a cool alternative, but I intend to go back to normal if the freakin 1.10 patch ever gets here :/ From what I'm reading it is going to be radically different. New items, altered skills, new rune words, etc etc. Like an expansion in and to itself.

As far as mules... I dunno. I suck at organizing (this applies to all aspects of life). As I told msan yesterday, I am perfectly happy giving him whatever cool stuff I find, since I know if there is something in particular I want to use he'll no doubt oblidge me :)

Strange... I did 5-6 HM Meph runs and didn't die. It's amazing what lvling and adding 200 hp's will do for you. I guess I can start doing Meph runs now, lol. Unfortunately Meph didn't drop jack shizat. I did pindle, shenk, and meph for about 2 hours and the only thing I got was Thundergod's Vigor off of one of the undead outside pindle..... :/ That does change my cow runs with the +3 LF though. Still, I had this big freudian dream about doing HM Meph runs and getting massively awesome stuff. I got jack :/

Baal will drop some decent stuff, but fighting his minions is a real biatch without a ranged char. If you survive Achmel's poison, you have to get real lucky and not have a phys immune Bartuc or Lister rolled on ya.

In Hellmode you have to be lv 90 or above to start getting the really good stuff. At least I think... Dang it's been a while. Something about being above the level of the monster doing the dropping. Which in Baal's/Pindles case is 90. I think Meph is too but I don't remember.

I was just playin all night and i was able to get to Act5 NM with my new barb, and somebody helped me with the ancients when i was level 40, so i got 8 levels from it and am now 48! wootage. I can use arreats face and better swords, but i still desperately need a manald heal or mana steal ring.

Here's my find of the day (if not week). Found this with my barb lol, instead of my MF sorc.

I finally found a +2bow skills, non-magic, Ceremonial bow in a NM blood run. I used my socket quest reward and it now has 4 P. emeralds and a DOL rune (25% runaway). Combined with the caster gloves I crafted, which give knock-back, she can really hold her own in open spaces. Hit 'em, push 'em back, many run away, all die agonizing poison DAETHS !

I did, however, get PokeZON to level 61 and she's my BEST ZON EVAh ~! lol
