Boondock Saints just went up.

It's only up to part 38 now. 54 parts total I think.

Lol, I'm happy because I finally found out how to repair using .par files. :)

"Att Newbie's How To Use Par Files With Mirror"

VERSION USED: 0.2.4.0

To decrease the amount of fills, I'm using parity volume sets.

What's this?

Let's say, I have 20 rar volumes (foobar.r00 to .r18 + .rar). With the
appropriate program I can create a parity volume set for those files.
With a setting of 10 files per parity volume, 3 files will be created:

foobar.P01
foobar.P02
foobar.PAR

This is a parity volume set.
The .Pxx files are called parity volumes. They contain a XOR parity
checksum of the corresponding files.
In case, the parity checksums are created "non interleaved", .P01 has
the parity data of .r00 to .r09 and .P02 has those of .r10 to .rar.
The .PAR file is called index file. It contains information, what
files are stored in the parity volume set, in which parity volumes
they are stored and their checksums.

What's it for?

If one of the files stored in a parity volume is lost, you can restore
it out of the parity volume and the remaining fills. Case in point,
you are missing .r04. Then you can restore it out of .r00 to .r03,
.r05 to .r09 and .P01. This works with every other file too, as long
only one file of those stored in one parity volume is missing. So you
can consider the Pxx files as "jokers".

When does it not work?

If you're missing more than one of the files stored in one parity
volume, you can't recover them.
Example:
You're missing .r04 and .r13. No problem, r04 is stored in P01 and r13
is stored in P02. So you can recover them both. But if you're missing
.r13 and .rar then you can't recover them. You have to get at least
one of these files. Then you can restore the other.

What do I have to do?

Step 0: get the program
Download at:
www.wehlus.de/mirror
Read the manual and play a bit with it to see how it works...

Step 1: ignore it
Download only the rar files and the sfv (as usual).

Step2: try to get your files
If a file is incomplete or corrupt, do the usual things.
(waiting a bit, trying other servers, trying the recovery record,
requesting backfills, etc.)

Still missing one? (usually the time for a repost request in the
repost group):

Step 3: get the index file
Download the PAR file.
The PAR file will be the last file of the post. So yo have to wait for
the last day of the post to be finished.

Step 4: check
Mirror will tell you, if your files are restorable and which Pxx you
need.

Step 5: get your parity volumes
Download the needed Pxx files.

Step 6: recover
Restore your files.

Still missing something?
Step7: request a repost in the repost group

If anyones interested and I can upload a file (rar format) containing the program (which doesn't need to be installed and can run from anywhere, just paste a copy in the folder that needs help.) and a lot of help and explanation files.

Ridiculously easy to use imo after one or two tries.

You have no idea the size of the lightbulb currently sitting above my head. I can't count the number of times I've opened up a rar file to see those types of "parity packages" LOL.

It all becomes clear!!! :D

In case you're curious, what I'm referring to pertains mostly, but not exclusively, to newsgroups. Your internet provider needs to offer them and then you need some tools for file downloads.

For a cheap laugh I also highly recommend House. Not scary in the least, but unintentionally very amusing.

Alright, this is related...where the hell do you get your rips? I mean, the best I can do is get them off of Kazaa, and even then the success rate blows because no one has the movies I want...how do I get into this whole subculture thingie?
