An article from IGNCUBE.com,
"Today's Los Angeles Times interviewed Final Fantasy creator and Square executive vice president Hironobu Sakaguchi about his involvement and thoughts on the new feature film, and the future of videogames. The Square man had several interesting comments to offer in regards to the release of the movie Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, and he also said exactly what Nintendo fans have been waiting to hear for a long time.
When asked whether or not Square would develop for Nintendo GameCube or Microsoft Xbox, Sakaguchi commented: "That certainly is a possibility. In fact, executives at Square are very enthusiastic about Nintendo."
"Square is moving into online games," Sakaguchi added. "'Final Fantasy XI,' which will be released next year, will be a fully online game. To make that work, you have to transcend hardware. If we want to do financially well online, we need to exist across all consoles.""
personally, if I were Nintendo, I would tell Square to go **** themselves,
-Drakk )))
Watch that language, you! :D
They probably said when asked "Can we develop games for your system?" "Yes, money... err I mean: Yes, Sir!"

Nintendo says: Welcome back.
Wasn't Squares fault for not supporting the N64 IMO, they wanted shitloads of FMV, carts can't do that.
So they went to the only other viable machine.
Now that isn't a problem and the Gamecube is technically superior to the PS2, so Squaresoft doesn't have those concerns anymore.
It took Nintendo getting back into the times, took some hard hits from the N64, but it was a learning experience and from what I've seen and heard from developers, it has paid off with the GC.

See Resident Evil 2 for the Nintendo 64, shitloads of FMV, carts with good compression can do it, however, the Nintendo 64 is on it's way out, and not many developers wanted to shell out for the 512Mbit carts, only two such games are that size, (Resident Evil 2 and Conker's Bad Fur Day) and as for Square, they refused to do any games on the Nintendo 64, so that is why I say I would tell them to go **** themselves, besides that, I like actually playing my games, not watching more FMV than there is actual gameplay, so that is why none of Square's games impress me in the least,

Oh what a glorious day that delivers this news to my ears! It IS what this Nintendo fan has been waiting to hear. Oh man oh man...
Ok, seriously. Let me just say, I understand the bitterness Drakk. It pained me that Nintendo lossed it's favor with Square, because Square is hands down my favorite game developer/Nintendo my favorite console. But I did understand it. MY bitterness instead is directed at Nintendo for being stubborn and sticking with carts. Dumb, dumb, dumb. The 64 had all the muscle to spank EVERTHING and they go with undeveloperfreindlydyingbythewayside carts. Square wasn't the only developer to bail out after all. Simply DUMB. When the CD was scrapped, I gave up on the 64 and bought my PS1. (Ok ok I bought Zelda)
Now, today. I have been planning on buying the Cube for some time now. Nintendo again has built a box that has the hardware to spank EVERYTHING, they've been getting favorible nods from developers *sigh of relief* and now Square too?! Oh man this is perfect. If this happens PS2 can kiss my A$$, I'll have absolutly no reason to buy one.

Heh, resident evil.
I don't think Square was going to fit FF9, or 7 onto a cart.
Look how many CDs it took them.
Going with Carts was the biggest mistake Nintendo made with the N64.

Originally they were going to, they started working on Final Fantasy VII for the Nintendo 64, then dropped it because of the cart space limitation, but FMV is doable on a cart, just depends on the size of the cart and the compression,

Thing was the price of those carts was alot higher and the more memory the more expensive.
Was just good business to go with the CD platform.
Even with Resident Evil there were those who complained about the compression of the FMV. /shrug
Either way, with the GC it seems damn near all the problems that Nintendo had with the N64 have been rectified.
GC is going to kick ass. :)

True, but I will be a bit sad to see carts go, loading time were usually non-existant with them (seeing Quake 64 load with the same loading icon as the pc was weird, lol), after the Nintendo 64 finally dies, the Game Boy Advance will be the only system to ever use cartridges again in the foreseeable future, and GameCube will kick ass,

Supposidly the load times on the GC are very low. Some even compared them to carts. I don't know if it's that fast, but after watching Luigi's mansion load up, I would say it's close.
After playing alot of the PS2, the games load too damn much. SOOO much loading all the time. Really sucks.

I know, Luigi's Mansion is supposed to be at 10 seconds, and I REALLY like how Nintendo is making developers develop, they write all the data to a removable hd that plugs in and out like a cartridge, so it acts like a giant cart, and of course, since it is on a hd, it had to load for them, too, so they will constantly have to put up with load times, instead of developing a game on superfast servers, with little to no thought to how long a player has to wait for the game to load on the actual system, (with monster 1 minute+ load times), they will try to speed loading as much as possible, so in IGN's words, "The loading time will always be on their minds",
