Ok, now hd's in consoles is a neat idea, it has it's advantages, like speeding up load time in games, enabling dynamic worlds that keep their state long after the game has shut off, (I am talking about seriously complex worlds), and eliminating the need for a Memory Card, Sony is going to release a 40GB hd for the Playstation 2, and while I was up at my friend's house earlier tonight, I was reading his new Playstation Magazine, and they had an article on it, and then I run into this, I quote directly from the magazine, starting off after it says how it is installed,
"and boot up the system with the included utility disc inside, a minute and a half later the HDD and adaptor are initialized, and the disk loads upgraded drivers for playing music CD's and DVD movies, also, programs such as Real-Network's RealPlayer 8, which plays MP3's and video's, will be installed, after that you will want to keep the utility disc around for system diagnosis and disk defragmentation down the road",
and this little tidbit,
"Don't have enuf space in your mail in-box?, simply move large attachments on over to your Playstation 2 hd",
don't you just love Sony's attempt at turning the Playstation 2 into a cheap pc?, that is sickening, trying to turn it into a cheap pc, like I said above, hd's in consoles can be useful, but when used like this, that is exactly what it is, a cheap pc, I would be damned if I would want RealPlayer 8 installed on my console, if Sony wants to use their own software for playing MP3's, that is fine, but RealPlayer 8?, I can see it now, listening to MP3's on your Playstation 2, and seeing ads popping up, disgusting, what the hell next?, QuickTime?, maybe even Internet Explorer? (actually, with the X-Box competing with the Playstation 2, I would doubt seeing that), I am predicting now, one day you will see "Aol for Playstation 2" discs,
