Hehe,I confess I installed it today after first doing a backup.Only tested it in UT.No FPS increase.I have to test it a lot more but I did get one random freezeup using the beta D3D renderer. No miracle fix for UT I guess.Random freezing and crashing is to be expected with the beta d3d renderer in UT I should add.Other than that things are smooth.Cheers!

on microsofts or somewhere site i thought it said it was only for developers and that end users would see no increase in FPS, so i didn't bother with it

I think that any newer version is good, I will try it out now.

I've had DX8 for quite a while now. I've had it since it came out and have had no trouble in 98SE in any way and my games are running smooth as silk. i haven't yet tried 8.1. Any feedback on that would be helpful... :)

I also have a dual boot in win2k and when I went to install DX8 in there, it told me it was not compatible, so I tried DX8a and all is well........ :)

I installed it both my Win98 and 2000 partitions and it seems fine. It really didn't do anything one way or another but I haven't been playing games in 2000 for very long. I think the release is mostly to fix a few bugs (like the Kyro bugs).
