here are my results:

640x480 34.0 FPS
800x600 33.1
1024x768 28.3
1280x1024 21.0
1600x1200 14.1

that was with all settings max etc.

Im using the 6.50 win ME drivers from hercules web site.

I had "enable antistropic filtering" enabled and opengl se to always use 32bit color. Would those impact on the results?

My System:
Duron 650 @ 900
MSI K7T Pro 2
128MB PC-133 RAM
gf2 MX (hercules 3d prophet 2 mx) @ 205/188
20 GB IBM 7,200 RPM hard drive
50x cd drive
SoundBlaster Live! Value
Philips 19" screen: 109S

My desktop is set to 1152x864x32

thats using the v5 level from 3dfxliveson
and the v5 timedemo from there as well. (with quake 3, BTW)

Use the 11.01 or 12.00 drivers for WINME. For win98 11.01s are better , but for WINME 12.00's are more directx8 compatible and fix minor stability bugs. ( they are also the first Geforce3 drivers )
I also use the 12.00 in W2K , they are so good they run games like Quake3 at the same speed as WINME . Nvidia makes excellent W2K drivers :)

The 6.50's suck for Directx8.

where do i get the 12.00's?????

and is there a "special" way to install them or is it just a setup.exe?

To install new drivers:

First unzip the new drivers to a temp folder on your desktop so you can easily find them
EXAMPLE: c:\windows\desktop\drivers

Then uninstall the current drivers by going into add/remove programs, and remove the drivers. Then reboot.
Upon reboot windows will prompt for new drivers, browse to the desktop\drivers folder you made , and select the *.INF file that installs the proper driver for your card. It will be seen automatically so dont panic . Click through several "ok"s and reboot after your finished. Then your all set. I reccomend going to www.tweakfiles.com (http://www.tweakfiles.com) and getting RIVATUNER, it is handy to adjust other settings within d3d and opengl that the default settings in your video properties dont show.

1024x768 28.3

Somethings really wrong there. You should be getting at least 50 -70 fps with all settings maxed. On my PRO I get an average of 108fps in the demo001 map in q3 version 1.17 with every setting maxed, and anistropic filtering enabled. You should be getting at least three quarters of that with your MX.

i assume win9x will work with winme.............

EvilEngine

Yes its the same.

im installing the drivers now......i know those results do sort of well (sux) and my MX is overclocked as well!!

GRRRR what can be wrong with it?

EvilEngine
04-24-01, 10:56 PM
Well , I'm not sure whats up. Your MX should be getting almost a 30% increase in speed from your V5.Thats with texture compression off, anistropic filtering on , and all settings maxed till your VGA bleeds. I'm wondering if you have the new VIA 4n1 drivers from www.viahardware.com (http://www.viahardware.com) ?
Or, you have a glitch in your video card. But before going there, make sure you have all the proper current drivers, and a proper DEFRAG ( i hope you do that ) of your hard disk. Also make sure you have the proper settings in your BIOS for your memory and AGP speed. If you need help with those settings please ask, I or someone else here will guide you through the best setup.

i just installed those new drivers and got 30.1

not that this is with a v5 demo from www.3dfxliveson.com (http://www.3dfxliveson.com)

I don't know how to run timedemos in 1.27g, as it takes me back to the demo instead of running the demo.

I have the x.29 VIA drivers.

AGP set to 4x, RAM set tp CAS of 2, PC-133.

I havent overclocked my card yet, as these drivers don't let me. I will get that utility and do that ASAP

how do u run the timedemo in 1.27g?

I defrag everyday, and defragged no more than an hour ago.

I also have cacheman installed, which got rid of various "jerks" in FPS in UT.

I'll have a look at VIA now. and get that overclocker utility.

strange, my connection to tweakfiles.com was refused.

so i'll get it from 3dfiles.......

You dont need a utility to overclock, just the coolbits.reg file. http://www.nvnews.net/files/utilities/coolbits.reg

thanks!

im installing the latest VIA 4 in 1's now.
then i'll overclock.

do u know how to run timedemos (the standard ones, or the one u got your FPS score from)
in 1.27g

scottg26
04-24-01, 11:20 PM
after overclocking, i get approx 31.5FPS. thats with latest VIA's as well

multigl
04-24-01, 11:24 PM
well thats cause its 32bits and anisotropic filtering. remember Evil the MX has only 2 pipelines, not 4.

EvilEngine

In 1.27 G and H, You have to use:
timdemo 1
demo demo127

Its not the same as 1.17, but it will have to do , unless you download one of those 1.27 demos that are supposedly identical to 1.17.

I havent used any of those so I wouldnt know how they are. Just stick to the demo127 and mark your advancement from there. BTW, 1.27H is the fastest of the versions.

Well hell if thats all a MX can do with a 900mhz cpu, then it *please no offense to all the users here in Slackercentral* is weak as hell for a nvidia card. Dont flame me please, but you should be getting way more than 30 fps. Even my Voodoo5 on a silly k6-2 500 gets 71fps. So I dont know what to say. I dont know , it just doesnt seem right. There has got to be something missing if he cant get more than that as an average. But one good thing , he did gain some FPS from the updates. But something is just missing.
/me is thinking.......hmmmm..

"after overclocking, i get approx 31.5FPS. thats with latest VIA's as well"

At what resolution ?

scottg26
04-24-01, 11:42 PM
1024......

although on q3dm17 by typing in "/cg_drawfps 1" it sez im getting between 40 - 90 FPS

so maybe its just that that demo is slow?

scottg26
04-24-01, 11:48 PM
whats this 2 pipeline stuff?

I'll try that demo demo127 now.

after i restart

Well instead of focusing on the FPS, becuase it seems you squeezed as much as you can for now out of your MX. Hows the gameplay? Is the quality improved any? How do the 12.00 drivers compare to the 6.50s? Do you notice any positive improvements in d3d and opengl? What are your honest opinions?

multigl
04-24-01, 11:55 PM
hah. scott the geforce 1 SDR and upto the Geforce3 *except* the Geforce2 MX have 4 pixel pipelines. the geforce2 mx has 2. 2 pipelines x your clock speed, ill say 200MHz = 400Megapixels per second. thats more than what the MX actually gets, but even then, 400 is not a lot. the Geforce2 MX is severly choked when trying to do 32Bit at higher resolutions, especially with tri linear filtering and Anisotropic filtering. :p

i knew i should of spent and extra $200 and got the full GTS...

:(

anyway, i got 35.6 on the demo demo127 again, :(

well, i think it may look a bit better, and UT is just as good (i can't tell faster /slower)

on the demo127 i saw one txture that turned all black.......and the problems with tribes r still there.

Im gonna see if there is anydifferent in the (dare i say it) 3dmark 2k/2k1

PROs are only $180 now. Geforce3s should be about $399 when they come out in MAY.

What problems are you having with Tribes2? Im affraid to ask. Dont worry dude lots of people have issues with that buggy thing, even PRO and Ultra users. For me the game runs wonderful with no patches. But as you may know Tribes1&2 are multiplayer games, and patches are needed for that. Which only fuxors up the whole game for me personally.

multigl
04-25-01, 12:15 AM
yeah, the GF2 Pro, GF2 Ultra, GF3 and radeon are really the only cards worthy of 32 bit at high resolutions.

it was tribes 1, and stuff like , well its just horrible.
The mountains disappear, i can't describe the rest...just even thinking of how horible it is....

Well Tribes1 is a Glide based game if i remember. Try running it in OPENGL instead. maybe you might get a big boost than if your trying to run it in D3D. Hopefully your Tribes game isnt configured to run in Glide with a Nvidia card. Then you will get fuxored up images. :)

only options i have is opengl and software, so i choose opengl.

It also got settings for i740 and TNT, so i just chose Generic. I tried the other ones but no difference.

im getting around to 3dmark...just catching up on this board.

me: 4974
someone else:4935

with a different processor,
me: 4974
5424 109%
AMD Athlon(tm) Processor 1120

5399 108%
AMD Duron(tm) Processor 950

5040 101%
Intel Pentium III 950

5019 100%
AMD Athlon(tm) Processor 840
those people beat me

and in 3dmark 2001:
no results available in ORB for comparrision
