Ok, I fibbed about that. But really, what other way is there to get rid of all that "make your penis bigger than Eiffel Tower" and "watch me get all dirty with my lesbian roommates" spam e-mails?

NEW YORK (Reuters) -- Three of the most prominent U.S. technology companies: America Online Inc., Microsoft Corp. and Yahoo! Inc., plan to work together to develop ways to block unsolicited commercial e-mail known as spam, the companies said Monday.

The companies, in a joint statement, said they would bring aboard other companies to develop industry guidelines and new technical standards to block the e-mails, which have drawn heated criticism from Internet users.

They said they hope to "significantly reduce the ability of spammers to use AOL's, Microsoft's and Yahoo!'s e-mail services to send spam."

I don't know what to think. I mean... I'm glad... but at the same time, that's one heck of a Trio to be teaming up. What will the reprucussions be?

If it cuts my hotmail spam even by half I will be stoked. It's about damn time someone did something to stop these jackasses from spaming the boxes.

Think of it this way, wit hthese three bigwigs teaming up, perhaps they could influence some legislation on the issue. You all know telemarketing is getting owned in the next few months, right? How beautiful would it be for spam to get owned as well :)
