Today, we announce the creation of Gentoo Games, Inc., a gaming technology company created to deliver innovative Linux-based game technologies to the public. To kick off this new initiative, we are also announcing a full version of the very popular (Linux exclusive) America's Army military combat simulation on a self-booting Gentoo GameCD. Thanks to hosting services provided by Super Computer, Inc., the America's Army GameCD can be downloaded here. This CD includes the full version of the America's Army game and requires an NVIDIA or recent ATI (Radeon 8500 or higher) graphics card. Enjoy

Gentoo Games (and for that matter release of games contained in a single CD-DVD media) could prove to be a very succesfull alternative to linux gaming. Imagine, you purchase your game, and much like a console game, you pop it into your box, wait a few seconds (if not minutes) and you are presented with a nice little interface and the game launcher (as in America's Army) Only problem though would be that competition is already furious in the console ground and the PC-Arena is almost ruled entirely by MS OS's so the serious development of games aimed at the linux platform is almost non existent (don't get me wrong, I think there are great games for linux and many have been already ported) The platform needs more game development. And this alternative could lead (utopically speaking) to game developers using existent software to port their games to linux and make them act pretty much like a console... I could not say if it would succeed in the long run, I am not a great fan of console gaming after all, and rather preffer PC games.

Just random thoughts

TOX glad you are almost set building your system. It took mine 3 days to build. I think that the problem with Gentoo is that it takes too damn long to install because you NEED broad band, otherwise a simple system install could take up to TWO WEEKS
