Microsoft!
http://www.cnn.com/2003/TECH/ptech/05/28/microsoft.glitch.reut/index.html
Microsoft Corp. said on Tuesday it
has withdrawn a security update for
its Windows XP software after
discovering that it switched off
Internet connections for some of the
600,000 users who downloaded and
installed it.
Getting a new patch or new OS from Microsoft is basically volunteering to Beta test for them for free.

They still have an update for XP version of a Realtek drive that will kill your Internet connection as well.
Every single computer I have auto updated with XP and a Realtek NIC on board has died after updating the driver.
Switch it back to the previous driver, the one built into XP, or even the newest one off of Realteks web site, and no problems. Auto update = Daeth.

I'll have to remember that. SimK is about to buy an Epox 8rda+ and I believe the onboard NIC is in fact Realtek. Somehow I'm the lucky one that gets to install the new board.

That's also my board. May I make a suggestion?
The northbridge has a rather cool looking heatsink on it... remove it, install a fan instead. It'll prolly save headache later.
But it IS a great mobo for the money.

Not to sound pissy, but what is the FILE NAME of the update that needs to be deleted? The link is to CNN and they didn't give it out.
