An update or newer version of ATI's multimedia center?
I looked through the ATI site but the most recent version can I find is listed to use (most current) 8500DV! I installed the version off the CD that my 9700 came with...but I thought there was a newer version available!

There's a version for the MMC same as the latest version of the drivers.
What's your card, built by or powered by ATI?

[edit]
That's the powered by ATI driver, btw.

I'm running ATI MMC v 8.1 with my Sapphire Radeon 9700.
I couldn't find it at all on their site, so I typed "ATI multimedia center" into Google and followed some links till I found it. What version do you have on your CD? I think mine was 7.something. The GUI is completely different in the new one.
edit:
Oops. Apparently version 7 of the MMC also had the same skins as 8, it just defaulted to classic, and 8 defaults to modern. So in the end, they don't really look that different...

I don't know if you need an ATI built card to use the 8.5 MM version or not.
I think only the DVD player you need to have an ATI built card or an ATI official CD but I may be wrong.

8.5 is buggy, I tested on my Ati 8500 64 MB, I get weird artifacts on my AIW 9700 Pro as well. I'd wait a bit on the MMC. Yeah it also works running ATI's MMC on my Visiontek 9500 Pro. Haven't tried the latest MMC on the 9500 Pro, and I'm not even gonna bother to try after the problems I have with 2 BBA cards.

I'm running MMC 8.5 on a built by ATI 9700 Pro and it works great. No problems.
It does have a rather lengthy and involved installation process, along with a million pitfalls along the way, so it doesn't surprise me if others have major problems.
Getting DAO/MDAC to the correct version (and it's myriad of MS version interdependencies), Windows Media 9 + all proper CODECS and drivers (not included) and then the ATI garb up to level is a huge mess of intertangled interdependencies. Just running the setup.exe's simply wont yield positive results unless everything else about your system is up to the minute patched and perfect.

That's too much work, I'm sticking to the older version, no enhancements here anyways....... I HATE GAYEDX9 & WINDOWS MEDIA GAYER 9 WITH A PASSION!!! :P

Well, the thing I like about MMC 8.5 is it's all I use.. for EVERYTHING.
No more MS Media Player.. no more MP3 players.. nada. WMV streams now open in MMC and DVD playback is also very nice.
It's good having one single player for ALL media, and the ATI version is awesome for use with internet media.

Shark, ever play any SVCD's? I notice that PowerDVD (Deluxe) easily dominates, has the best sound by far imo but I never tried the ATI route for that.
What about XVid/DivX?
While I got you .... I've noticed PowerDVD has some ATI "stuff" in a folder ...... ummmm ........ "C:\Program Files\Common Files\CyberLink\ATIDVD"
CLADR.ax
claud.ax
clds.dll
CLNav.ax
CLVSD.ax
clwo.dll
powerdvd.sim
Think this could be partly why I'm noticing such goodness? TIA!

From what I understand, ATI's DVD player, for all practical purposes, IS PowerDVD these days. It uses the same core engine, drivers and whatnot.
I only have a couple SVCD titles, and comparing to PowerDVD is a bit difficult as I only have PowerDVD on my second PC, which has a Ti4600. Visually, the ATI MMC has superior video quality, but that may just be the hardware. Audio wise- no difference in quality, but my two titles arent the best examples (one being a poor version of Run Lola Run, which was mixed pretty terrible).
What I mainly look for in a player is fast, efficient, good video/sound quality and not overly bloated. ATI's MMC meets all these requirements as it's small, takes little to no system resources, switches between modes and resizes FAST, has crystal clear video and audio, and is a centralized player for ALL media (mpg/mpg2, dvd, divx, windows media, avi, etc.etc.)

Gotcha and thanks. I too have Lola Rente, lol, I mean Run Lola Run, but it's DivX, cool flick.
Interesting about the ATI/PowerDVD connection, uhh, I expect people to be very happy with PowerDVD 5.
SVCD is very popular for TV shows, e.g. "Firefly", "Forever Knight", so that's important to me.
Hmm, PowerDVD has some great software modes for audio .......... lol, I'm sure you have great hardware so that's not much of a factor but I'm a headphones man and the "Dolby headphones" option is nice.
OT and btw I picked up a Philips Sonic Edge 605 series on sale yesterday, a tad tricky (for me) to get all the options set but it's got great static free sound. Took me two attempts to install I should add.
