View Full Version : svchost crashing in windows 2000.

Need some help, today my windows 2000 machine started having problems with svchost. It happens whenever I surf the internet.
I connect to my ISP using a 56k dial-up connection, I start surfing the web then a couple of minutes later the following messages appear:

and another error message that RPC unexpectedly closes/exits.

After these errors Windows 2000 craps out, runs slow, it doesn't let me view certain folders etc. etc.


I am not sure what the problem is, as the computer was working perfectly.

I might say that there is a problem with the modem, but i am not sure.

If any of you have had similar problems, or if you have any suggestions please reply. Thank you for all your help.

download Adaware (free version)

run it, clean it, rejoice :)

You've been hit with a worm that exploits the RPC service in the NT line.

Patch (http://microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=C8B8A846-F541-4C15-8C9F-220354449117) your system and the problem goes away.

I hate that deep down in the bowels of Hades..., I mean Windows, shit :mad:

I hate the Registry, I hate the networking shit, I hate the IE built in crap, I hate the fact that I have like five instances of scvhost.exe running right now and I don't know what even fucking one of them is doing.

I haven't seen it, but that could mean that I got it from Windows Update already.

But you may have to take it a step further.

Do a search for msblast and delete everything having to do with it. You may have to stop the process from running first via Task manager.

Then, check the run key in the registry and remove the link to msblast.exe

Then, run the patch.

Also... I suggest upgrading from SP2 you noob! :P LoL jk. The only people I've seen with the svchost crashing are on Sp2. If you had 3, or 4, you wouldn't have the problem.

Ok, thank you Kermit and nextbillgates, i will try that patch later today. I am too busy slacking at the moment.


by the way i don't even have SP1 intalled in this system.

If you're not going to patch it right away, then disconnect it from the internet. You're distributing this worm to others.

I am not on the system at the moment.

i just found out i got this lovsan worm. Thanks everyone i will try to get rid of it.

I had the randomly timed reboot and I'm on a totally unpatched WinXP install (Well, 1 patch now).

That was an absolute pain in the ass, thank god another messageboard had the fix stickied (Post of the day) since about 5 seconds after boot, the shutdown message would come up without fail.
