I think I am , and have been told I am , but I think I got it from my dad who is a big tech guy too. He knows nadda about computers but is still very technically skilled. He has experience with cars and other advanced machines like air conditioning, and even audio equipment (which got me into electronics in the first place) , so I would say my dad, just for inspiring me.

my dad ( god rest his soul) loved repairing vcr's and tv's and taking things apart for a hobby. When I was 8 he bought me my first tool kit and showed me the inside of things like that, if it wasn't for him I probably wouldn't have such an interest in pc's that I do today.

I sound a lot like you EvilEngine. My Dad was tech minded. Journyman mechanic and electrician. He was never a super computer dork though. He did teach himself quite a bit on our first computer, a 386 running DOS 3.??? (Yes, no Windows at first)

Now I'm definitly filling the roll. I swear to God I got family members I didn't even know about calling up for friggin tech support. I keep joking about starting to charge, but my conscience wont let me. Infernal ethics instilled by my mother, "They're family honey"......ARGH!

While not really a member of my family, my mom's ex-boyfriend was an electronic engineer. I was never too interested in electronics, but when he brought home my first PC (a bitchin fast 386DX33, 4MB of RAM, a massive 540MB hard drive, a top of the line SB16, and an ISA video card capable of a whopping 256 colors at 640x480) I was hooked.

My mum, she can program in fortran, c and c++ (and probably a few others). She's been using computers since the days of punch cards, and used to write software professionally. She even spent some time lecturing in the open university.
