I don't want the SE, either, coz personally, I think they suck for the most part, but, after waiting soooooooo long for a DVD release, I along with about a gajillion other fans of the original trilogy, will be marching out in droves to buy it as soon as it comes out.

On the whole I think the SE's are superior to the originals, but some parts are a bit flaky indeed...

scottg26

and we all know what they are...

Jabba
The guy shooting first
Craptastic music shit in Jabba's palace
Shitty music at end of ROTJ

and to be honest I can do without those shots of everyone celerbating on corusunt (?) at the end of ROTJ...

Though I sort of prefer the original versions, I'm fine with the SE. Hell, I've bought both TPM and AotC on DVD as soon as they were available so it'd take some REAL butchering to make me hesitate to purchase the 'first' trilogy. Especially when it comes in such an orgasmic box.

I believe they've already confirmed that they will be released sometime in 2005 or 2006. I can't remember which.

This is incorrect. I remember reading a few weeks back when they announced the SE dvds that Lucas was quoted as saying that these are the films that he intended to release and will NEVER release the originals.

Yup. And the SE trilogy is coming out on DVD in September of this year.

whats so wrong about jabba and the rotj ending (which actually gives more closure to the whole thing)??

i agree about greedo and jabba's palace... but cloud city with the flybys and the colors, mos eisley... theyre very worth it... :dunno:

True, it all balances out pretty well. Nice to see some more fighters at the Battle of Yavin and everything, too. That said, it would've been even better if they'd done some CGIing at the start of the Battle of Endor where the Falcon does a 180 and the TIEs appear - they just 'pop in', which is forgivable considering the limitations of the time RotJ was made, but a little blending shouldn't have been all too hard I think and make suspension of disbelief that much easier.

Well I have both the Star Wars Trilogy Sets on VHS. The Regular and the SE.
would be nice to own Star Wars on DVD tho.......especially if they could make em in 6.1 Dolby

Doh! I misunderstood. By originals, I was referencing Eps. 4, 5 & 6. I didn't mean the original versions of those. Although it does piss me off that the original version won't be an option on those discs.

BTW, buy.com has the trilogy preorder available for $41.98 shipped. Avail. 9/21/04.

Seamless branching might not be so easy on those movies, due to the amount of changes made during the SE's. In many scenes it's just additional background "noise". It would be easier if they made it double sided discs then, with the originals on 1 side and the SE on the other, but let's face it: ain't gonna happen...

you are aware that what youre saying is totally, absolutely stupid, right? your safest bet, if your soooo against watching the special eds in glorious video quality and full blown 5.1+ DDex sound, is to get the crappy laserdisc transfers from the originals...

but even those will pale next to the dvds...

it just makes me so sad how he butchered them the way he did

i sat there in janurary this year watching them on a 14" TV on VHS (none widescreen, mono, recorded from TV about 10 years ago), and thinking, god, this is awesome. I don't even care if the picture/sound quality is shit

Come on, "butchered"? We're just talking about a few scenes or even just shots here. Even if you can do without them, let's not blow this thing completely out of proportion.

I'm not too bothered about them being SE verions.

VHS sucks, so I'll just be happy to see them on DVD.
DVD: quality picture + 5.1 = me happy :)

it certainly would be cool tho.... i really dont think greedo shooting first was part of the whole "this is what i had in mind when i did the movies but couldnt do for money/tech reasons" :rollies~:

It wasn't, George apparently felt that Han shooting first made him look kind of evil and ruthless. Just one of those cases of "if I could do it again, I'd do it differently".

I remember waaaay back when the original trilogy came out on tape they released a widescreen boxed VHS set (before the SEs) with a "making of" video and some sort of book. I think I saw it when we moved (it's probably in the big pile of boxes downstairs). Ought to dig it out and show my son what the REAL movies were like...

Hmm. Tried to search on google and I could only find one reference to that set...

In 1992, the VHS "SW Collector's Edition" (approx $100) was released by CBS/Fox. It featured letterboxed cassettes, the "From Star Wars to Jedi - The Making of A Saga" documentary, and a neat navy-blue box with a hologram of the original 1977 artwork. This VHS 1.1 was essentially a tape version of LD 1.1.

I paid $100 for that? Gawddamn...

Well one thing you guys need to keep in mind is this bit of information: it will be released as a very limited edition ! Kind of like any of Disney's allegedly great animated films. Which means you might want to preorder cause if you do not, the amount of units shipped will likely be enough to only fill said preorders and I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if that turned out to be the case. Out!
