Rules of
Roxcon

1.Alchohol and illegal substances will NOT be
allowed. Furthermore, if u show up slobbering ass
drunk or rank with the smell of mary jane, you
won't get in.

2. If your computer doesn't work, don't come and
plan on having it get fixed at the LAN. If you need
help with it, get help a day or two BEFORE the day
of the LAN Party.

3. All players deserve their privacy so do not
access anyone’s hard drive without their permission
whatsoever.

4.Any equipment that is not owned by you, don’t
touch it unless given permission by the owner.

5. Eating is allowed of course but please clean up
after yourself.

6. Unless told otherwise by the host of the party,
bring along either food, or money to get food. We
usually end up making runs to the store or ordering
pizza, so bring along like $5-$10 to cover whatever
you might want. It also helps when people bring
along a bag of chips or something that everyone can
share.

7. All players must update and run your anti-virus software before connecting to the network. If you dont have any anti virus software we will provide with a free version of AVG

8. No one is allowed to touch the networking equipment unless you are, Alex, Alan, Corey, or Travis

9. I know that some of you arent capable of cheating but if you do we will catch you and you will be taunted loudly and GGed till no end. If the cheating occurs more than once this will result in possible :banzor:ing from future LANs.

.....these are the rules as of today

I sorry for my problems. :mecry: i feel bad for bringing these problems to party. seems like everything just screws up when at LANs with my computers. Everything fixed so no need for me to bug yall with these stupid problems. Funny everyone was accessing Strykers hard drive. Cept me CS was too fun to mess round with that stuff. :headbang: :hmm: well atleast mess around with someones harddrive.

but all in all i feel bad for bringing beatup machines.

MY house agrees with rules also. :bigthumb:

Dont worry about that, we just didnt expect to have that big of a problem with the computer. And the thing with the CS, I now cant play CS because you took my CD Key. This goes along with the rule of not touching someones stuff without their permission, especially when it comes to CD Keys. Im not trying to sound weird by making these rules but I just want their to be some guidelines for the LANs so that there are little to no annoyances, and the players can have fun. There will also be a "Systems Requirements" list coming up so that we wont have people there that cant play games and this goes along with the thing of the dont bring bad systems rule.

Lollan

Yea, nothing personal, we're just trying to keep these as organized as we possibly can in order to get more gaming in.

For the system requirement, i think that if they can run Quake 3 with all the pretty stuff it should be good enough... it takes a helluva machine to run UT2004, and not everyone can get a machine like that. Even corey's FPS drops down to the 30's sometimes on assault maps.

I'd say something like this

P3 1.0 Ghz (P4 1.6 Ghz/Amd Athlon 1800+ preferred)
256 Meg of RAM (512 preferred)
Radeon 7500/Geforce 2 or above. (Geforce 3/Radeon 8500+ Preferred)
Windows XP (NECESSITY! Unless you know what your doing, then you can use 98 or something, heh. If you have windows ME, don't even come.)
100 Megabit NIC Card (I'm thinking about getting a Gigabit NIC/Switch soon when the prices come down)

If you want to play the game online YOU MUST OWN YOUR COPY! ESPECIALLY if it uses verificiation for online play, Now, with Quake 1/2/3 i could give a crap less, but with Steam Half Life thats a pain. Rule of thumb, if you wanna play online, buy it yourself. Also, you might wanna buy your own copy of the game if your going to quakecon, they'll probably be looking for hacked copys there.

In all my years of lanning, there is always two certainties when dealing with a group that doesn't meet regularly, or outsiders.

The lan party will never go as planned.

and

No matter how good in computers the person is, and no matter how stable their computer is at home there is always one :knob: who will not get their computer running without considerable reconfiguration, reformats, or new hardware.

I mean these rules are good and very understandable. when i took your key i didnt intend for it to be kept the same. I downloaded a changer which was said to change around the key and make it work. But it didnt in which i am sorry for using the key and let me know if there is a way for me to let you get the key back for your use since i have a copy of CS at my house. If you want that key you are welcome to it.

Unfortunatly two out of three i have been to the computer was mine but one laptop which is running fine and my sisters Desktop. Which i give lots of credit to Trip and Sphinx for saving and fixing. In my experience you can never perfectly organize a LAN. Stuff always messes up. I left the house with a working computer too, only to find it facked up when I boot it at the LAN... Stuff like that...

I do resent leeching tho. While I agree files can and should be transferred when the opportunity arises (during food breaks or something), going to a LAN where more than half of the people are just filesharing and burning CD's kinda defeats the entire point of a gaming LAN... That's what killed our LANs. I ended up playing CS with 2 other people and 7 bots and stuff

Trip
04-17-04, 09:39 AM
Yeah, one time, i was playing UT2004, and all of a sudden... POW!... my computer shuts off, and im like "Wtf?"... i tried booting it up, and it was a bad power supply... we found a replacement at 2 AM in the morning, i booted up... to find that my old hard drive was murdered along with it....
