View Full Version : My dad downloaded another virus...
I am giving up on his computer (actually, my old computer), because I am tired of deleting viruses every other day. I tell him every day to watch what he opens in his email, if you don't recognize the sender and it has an attachment, LEAVE IT ALONE. Delete it. It's that old Nimda worm, I don't know how it got here, but from what I read, it's not really harmful, it's just a mass-mailing worm, so I am gonna leave it alone... It probably explains why I get so much damn junkmail, though.

ROFL @ those!
Seriously though, have you considered asking him (nicely) to change his e-mail client program? Have him try Thunderbird or even Eudora instead of MS-OL/E.

Or just get some good anti-virus stuff setup, doesn't norton have the e-mail scanning feature?

Just tell your dad he is grounded from the computer, and he can't use it until he learns how to use it properly because its not a toy lol, just like when parents tell kids why they can't do shit but in reverse!

AVG is free and it has an e-mail scanner. I had my dad's and brother's using it for about a year and neither ever got infected with a virus. It's harder to setup than say NAV, but shouldn't be too much trouble.

I wondered about the effectiveness of AVG6 for ages now as I've had it installed on both mine and the downstairs PC and I've never had a virus alert.
That is until yesterday when it caught the bagle worm on the downstairs PC.
Due credit to mother though, she lets me know instantly to any dodgy looking emails.
