View Full Version : Animesuki gets into some legal trouble
For the first time ever (apparently), a Japanese media firm "Media Factory Inc" has requested from leading bit torrent tracker provider Animesuki, that all Media Factory Inc owned anime series be removed from their trackers. MFI also requests that all English speaking fan-subbers cease distribution of MFI owned series.
Series affected by this include:
School Rumble
UFO Princess
Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien
Genshiken
RahXephon OVAs
Oddly enough, everyone of these series besides RahXephon (OVAs not currently available stateside) have never seen the light of day in the US. UFO Princess has been around for a few years with no sign of coming stateside (i would have thought because of the nudity, but Popotan was brought over :D). School Rumble is one of my current favorite series, so i guess i'll just have to hope it comes out over here, preferably by Geneon since ADV sucks now. Kimi ga is another one of my favorites that has been around for a while with no inkling of coming stateside.

I read that and I think it's pretty sad that Anime is becoming a Corporate entity instead of being there for the fans. And even while some of the fansubbing will stop, there will always be underground fansub groups who will continue to sub it.
Attacking AnimeSuki is definitely wrong since they don't even host the file. They should go after the fansubbers if it causes them that many problems, but fansubbing gives those fewer known anime titles exposure to people who will want them most.
I'm all supportive of paying money for anime, but if it never comes out over here, then there is no point in me importing a raw which I'll never take the time to understand. Also I want my stuff un-cut, not some butchered up American crap that's designed to be shown on TV. That's why I'll never support One Piece over and here and continue to get the underground fansubbed version (not to mention the group has some of the best fansubbing of ANY group out there). To me the American version and the original Japanese version aren't even the same show. There is so much difference between them it makes me sick.
One day maybe some companies will get their head out of their asses and bring out quality anime for the fans instead of doing it for the money. Sadly this'll probably never happen.
indeed
As i've said time and time again, of the hundreds of dollars of anime i buy each month, 95% of it is because i've seen some of the fansubs and wanna pick up the DVDs.
I almost wish we (as fans) could do some sort of test. We stop fansubbing all anime all at once (100% stopped) then see how the US anime market does. I'm quite sure all of Geneon's and ADVs business would plummet to nothing. Bout the only company that would sell anything would be the one that makes those "Totally Uncensored" anime pr0n dvds, as people will buy those whether they've seen any fansubs or not lol. ADV wants to stop fansubbers, but they're trying to prevent the only thing that gives them any business (cept the 10% their Newtype magazine might bring in (not actual numbers, just making a point))
