And I am quite enjoying it so far.

But they keep talking about

Grand Admiral Thrawn (?) and the ressurected Emperor and some other battles i've never heard of. also some guy called skyunenenx who Han hates...

The only other Star Wars book I have read is Shadows of the Empire, which was also an enjoyable ride.

For Thrawn, you need to read the Heir of the Empire trilogy, which I can recommend. I'm now reading the follow-up to that storyline as well, by the same writer (Timothy Zahn), being: Specter of the Past/Visions of the Future...

Before that I read Shadows of the Empire...

Do yourself a favour Scott, and put down the book. Touch the Jedi Academy trilogy only if you've got no better New Republic novels to read. JA starts off well enough, but it gets increasingly awful and retarded the farther you get. Get the Thrawn trilogy instead (incidentally, Specter of the Past and Vision of the Future should be read only after you've read most of important the New Republic novels, since it's set at the end of the series and everything).

The first book in the Jedi Academy trilogy is pretty good, but it's all downhill from there. Everything keeps getting more infuriatingly stupid until the decidedly anti-climactic finale. You'd almost think Uwe Boll had some part in writing this. Unless you've already bought all three novels and wish to get your money's worth (which may prove difficult regardless), I'd read something more worthwhile.
