Basically I went with Pen Pen 'cause I couldn't find many pictures of the others, besides the pose of Pen Pen resembles a lot that of Tux ;) I'll keep looking around for alternatives though.

Also Gibb, did the site you found that gif on happen to have an animated gif of the penguin knocking over a bucket?

I haven't had much sucess finding other anime penguin pics that I like. Seesm like Pen Pen has the biggest collection of them.

nope cause I was looking for it >_<
Oddly enough I found that Azumanga gif from a site almost completely devoted to Eva. It had a synapsis for every single scene of every single episode. Then in the Random extra crap section it had the gif.

I knew what it said, just not how is it said in Japanese.

kiru biru (but r is interchangeable with L in katakana, so kilu bilu). Whenever the RU/LU character ends a word, they just chop it off to sound like it should with just the L sound.

That's handy to know... I've also always wanted to know under which circumstances a word can end in a consonant, or rather which consonant endings are allowed, without appending the 'o' sound (like in Bleach to Sado/Chado). But there are some words, I can't remember one off the tip of my head, though the kilu-bilu example is a good one for this, where the consonant ending is allowed. So there must be some consonants that are allowed, but all the rest are not. Or so is my guess (from what I've seen on animes and japanese TV)

well as far as I know, if a word is straight up Japanase, than it is written in hiragana, and never should end in a consonant. (cept for the n sound, which is kind of an oddball character thrown on the end of the alphabet. For example the word for orange is "mikan" (mee kaun)).
One thing you'll hear quite often is a word sounding like it ends with an S. This is mainly a mannerism in how the Japanese pronounce the character "su". The verb "desu" which is by far the most used verb, will almost always sound like "des". You also hear them pronouce it "desu" (day sue), but I think it's more of a way to make somebody seem immature (annoying people in anime say day sue alot).
if a word is of foreign origin, then the Japanese use the other alphabet "katakana". Katakana has the same amount of characters, and same basic sound structure as hiragana, but it's warped a bit to match the odd sounds from foreign words that they cant quite mimic.
The most common ending consonant sound would probably be L, but there are some others such as M or R. Th is attempted by simply using the "Su" character, so Smith is "Su Mi Su". Other sounds like "ti" (tee, as in Tina) exist in katakana but do not exist in the normal alphabet. (Chi exists instead of Ti in hiragana)
Edit:
Katakana is very fun to play around with. Basically it's like solving a mystery because you can read a Japanese katakana word, then try to figure out which word in English it might be. One of my favs that I just learned about is this: プロログウ (need Japanese language support to see it I suppose). Basically if you read it out in a straight character -> romanji translation, it's "puroroguu". If you play around with the R's and L's, you get "purologuu". So basically the word is Prologue. :D

I can see those characters (good thing Linux has a very good language support). I was scanning through the available Hiragana and Katakana in my box and I can pretty much see all characters (some may actually require that I install a newer lang-pack or something) and a thought struck right at me: With the insane amount of Knajis there are for Japanese and Chinese (both are actually the same glyphs, or so I know), how can they be represented in comptuers? More so... There are rules (AFAIK) to form Kanjis, which means that new Kanjis can be made up and by knowing the rules to make them up, one can know what a new kanji actually means. Hehe... I'll go read some more about this stuff... I guess I like linguistics :P

lol, Kanji is such a PITA. Just when I think I know a kanji character perfectly, I see it used somewhere else and it's pronounced completely differently.
For example:
今 = ima, which means "now"
日 = nichi, which means "day"
今日 = kyou, but the meaning is exactly what it should be, "today"
Cool thing about the the language support is that I can type 'kyou" exactly like that, and press Space and it will convert it to kanji. I dont know how it works, but it seems to be exactly right almost every time. I can type out a huge romanji sentence (a song title or something) and it will convert it and look exactly like the song name on the back of the import CD case :)

This pic was perfect since it resembles a bit the classic posture of Tux (the Linux mascot)
