nVidia seems to be supporting AGP quite a bit better than ATI is, and there's really no reason for ATI not to, they have a similar bridge chip they could slap on any of their PCI-E cards.

That's all this card is ;)

don't know what it is but Nvidia always seems to have the better bang for buck deals. No offense to ATi fans.

Surely, this card's gonna be a bargain. Otherwise, most folks (at least the one's stuck w/ Athlon XP, without nForce3 & Athlon64) would 1st choose to upgrade their cpu/motherboard before blowing a wad ($300 or more) on this gpu. They better price it under $300 to start or i don't see 'em moving many of these cards.

Not if they buy the mobo that i linked to in one of the others threads.. It has PCI-E and AGP8X, plus an extension slot for socket M2.

And even if there was no such motherboard, it would be a total waste of money to get a new VGA for a platform that old (i know, i have one)

But yeah like you said.. They better make it cheap...

Yeah, I've been reading up on it since trying to find a decent AGP card to upgrade to. nVidia had their bridge chip out a while ago. ATI jsut came up with one, but they haven't implemented it yet. The X8xxXT line is a true AGP chip, not a bridged PCI-E chip.

I wasn't even aware there was a difference between AGP and PCI-E other than the interface, heh. But I don't know why the hell ATI bothered to develop their bridge chip if they aren't going to use it. Maybe on their next gen lineup?

Well..they'll sure get my business if they start applying this to other cards....ahem 7800GT and higher...what can I say, I just have no interest in updating my wife's mobo solely to get a PCI-E slot that just isn't that much faster than an AGP slot. Good job nividia - it seems like common sense to sell cards to a market that needs them - ATI is really dropping the ball on this (and I say this as an X1800xt owner)

Ever heard of X800XL AGP? Or the long waited RIALTO bridge chip quite some time ago?

I think X850XT AGP uses bridge chip too, but atleast the XL does for certain, making the circuitboard quite big (compared to PCI-E) (didn't affect the XT tho)

Or did you mean only the X1800 series?

The funny part is how ongodly cheap motherbaords are anymore, heh. I could of goten a top line MoBo and PCI-E X8xxXT line video card for the same price as the AGP version of the video card by itself. An PCI-E X800XT goes for around $200, while the AGP version you'd be lucky to find for less than $300. I can't see laying all this at ATI's feet alone though, unless it's ATI that's pricing their AGP GPU's out of the mainstream pricing structure for some reason. I htink it's largly due to greedy vendors as well.

Hopefully ATI will start slapping their bridge chip on some PCI-E cards and releasong some AGP now that nVidia slapped 'em, heh.

From what I've read the last couple of days, though certainly not definitive, the X850XT AGP is a true AGP part, not using the Rialto bridge chip. Though it seems ATI did already have the chip developed when they decided to do a true AGP part. The AGP chip is designated as the R481 (as oppossed to the R480 of the PCI-E line). Didn't read much on the X800XL line, as I was focusing on the X850XT for my purposes. And as I said, it's not like I read dozens of sites on it, just a few related reviews. I think the one I read one the X850XT being a AGP part was on HardOCP, maybe. I did read one related article there anyway.

Yep, but the X800XL still uses a bridge chip.
