Yeah, okay - it's not on the PC... but have any of you seen the footage from this game over at GameSpot?!?!

How on earth they're squeezing this kinda stuff out of a console that's supposedly going to retail for $199... and the graphics core is the ATi FLIPPER chip!
Let's hope this kind of power finds it's way to the PC... and soon! :)
At the moment, this is one of the reasons for me buying a GameCube when it finally reaches our shore sometime next year.

Because Nintendo designed it as a game machine, and a game machine only, not an audio CD player, not a DVD player, that is why it is not sporting a $300 price like the other consoles, and ATI had nothing to do with the development of Flipper, ArtX did, they designed it, ATI just bought them, nothing else,

Rogue Leader is pretty much the selling point for me on the gamecube, but I'm still undecided. Yesterday I would have put in my pre-order if I could have, but every place except for e-bay appears to be sold out, and I'm not going to pay $500 for a damn console.
I hardly play my PS2, and my main concern will be that I will have very little free time to play gamecube. But I am drawn like a moth to a high powered nuclear waste facility that will restructure my genes so that I am the monster from "The Thing" --- IMO the best scary movie out to date.

Like I said in your post, Ambience, try Wal-Mart, if you have any around you, you might actually be able to get one, they do not do pre-orders, it is a first-come, first-served basis, and they do NOT sell bundles, you only buy what you want, and BTW, Star Wars Rogue Squadron 2 is actually being released November 7th or 8th, I believe, so you can go ahead and pick it up if you want,

Our walmart houses two cities, and if it's anything like the PS2 launch, people waited overnight in line to pick up the system. I think I'll just wait until the 2nd system pre-order comes.
Amazon.com has a pretty cool bundle deal that has the jet black system, Luigi Mansion, Rogue Leader, and Waverace...I probably won't care much for waverace, but I would definately buy the other two.

Well, the deed has been done. I pre-ordered CG jet black, with Rogue Leader....I'll buy the other two games when they come out.
Total price $350, but I probably won't get it on the 18th...no biggie.

You're right. For $400 I can get the package deal with three games. I cancelled my order. Hehehe.

You know that "The Thing" is currently being made into a Resident Evil-like (but with actual 3D environments) PC game? I've read a scoop about it in PCG UK, looks very good and spooky. It's squad-based, apparently, so there's plenty of suspense and pants-browning moments to go by. :)

Still, I hope that means that the ArtX development team will be integrated into the R&D for whatever ATi ships next for the PC... yeah, the Radeon 8500 looks pretty good (and yes, I know everyone is screaming about driver compatibility) but I think this will only lead to more interesting competition.
nVidia has its NV25 part in the XBox (and their much hyped six month product cycle), ATi might have something that uses FLIPPER tech in the pipeline... things are lookin' good, Vern :)

It'll suck like all Resident Evil type games do, and especially movie-games...
MiB anyone? Oh wait, how about Evil Dead?

Now now, let's not jump to conclusions shall we? You'll just have to take my word for it that it looks gorgeous, but I'll be so kind as to copy the entire Scoop! for you here:
If Things can only get better, then we're in for a treat. John Carpenter's classic 1982 sci-fi horror improved on Howard Hawk's original in 1951 flick in all departments (anyone who says different is a chin-stroking Meeja Studies bore), and now here's an attempt to better the grotesque special effects and buttock-clenching tension of McCready and co's Antarctic agony.
It might be hugely optimistic to assume that any game could stand a chance of equalling the spectacular dismemberments and monstrous man/dog/spider hybrids of the film, but if anyone's got a chance, then it's developers Computer Artworks. Specialising in organic-style art, the studio is building a third-person action adventure that continues on from where the film's enigmatic finale left off. Tho this end, you control a new search party that's sent out to discover just what became of the original US and Norwegian research teams.
The catch? The eponymous alien is still lurking withint the torched shell of the base, and its ability to take the form of any living creatures means it's not long before you're unable to trust members of your own squad., It's the perfect scenario for another anxious adventure in the frozen wastes, with claustrophobic locations cut off from civilisation, and a party of characters whose initial cavalier attitude to the task is soon replaced by fear and paranoia. If you've seen the film, then you'll appreciate how your arsenal of weapons is as important to the action (and iconic) as in the Alien films. Flamethrowers abound - allowing you to act on McCready's 'torch the f***er' philosophy - while pistols, rifles, grenades, MP5s and as-yet-unnanounced heavier weaponry will yet you waste infected team-mates and animals in suitably extravagant fashion.
Pyrotechnics are all well and good, but Computer Artworks are hoping to inject The Thing with the kind of suspense that separates the film from simple sci-fi slasherdom. With a squad-based system in place (a la H&D), you'll need to switch control between characters in order to solve simple puzzles: the engineer is the only one who can fix equipment, for example. The actions of certain team members also affect the stats of others. The Medic therefore not only heals team-mates, but also helps to bring their fear levels down as well as increasing their trust in you - important factors, because co-operation is crucial when there's a shape-shifting alien running amok amongst you.
About that Thing, then. It's obviously going to be the start of the show - think the Nemesis from the third Resident Evil game. The genius of Carpenter's baddie, though (and that which makes it perfect for a videogame), is that it can take any form. Computer Artworks can consequently let their imaginations run riot, creating the kind of grotesque alien/human monsters that other, stricter, film licenses would never allow.
So, an unprecedented amount of freedom results in a game that hinges on the exact opposite. Claustrophobia, fear and paranoia are the emotions that Computer Artworks are trying to deliver throughout, and even if the finished game doesn't match the quality of its source material, it looks like it'll be a terrifying ride regardless. Until then, we'll have to do just as McCready memorably drawls in the movie's dying seconds: "Just wait here a while... see what happens."
So, picture Aliens vs Predator cross-bred with Max Payne and Hidden & Dangerous/Rogue Spear/Operation Flashpoint, and you'll probably get a pretty good idea of what the game will be like. The biggest challenge is probably getting both the controls and pacing right.

But I already have all those games, why would I want to play one that combines them all?

They already have products in development that use ArtX's design in some way, but both Nintendo and ATI have gone on record saying that there will NEVER be a video card that uses the exact same Flipper chip that the GameCube uses, besides there are a few differences, but also to keep it GameCube exclusive,
