Tool-any song/any albumn :D

Seriously, my favorite band. If you've never sampled, the industry describes them as industrial metal, BHAH! NIN is industrial. These guys just have a heavy sound that can't be classified as traditional rock. Great musicality like Pink Floydd, only with lots of distortion :D. Very well written music.

Try "H" from the Aenima album.
Or "No Quarter" remake from Salival.

Good for starters, or blah blah blah if you know em'

BloodyL is my new friend. :D

Since your fresh to them....
Albumn desc:
Opiate: Garage band stuff, not that good
Undertow: Most "traditional" sound. The single Prison Sex did quite well in the UK.
Aenima: Awesome. Coming out albumn. Good for pulling singles from.
Salival: Mostly live cuts, but invaluable No Quarter remake.
Lateralus: Brand new. Very original sounds. Almost tribal beats. IMO, the entire albumn is neccesary to appriciate.

Enough :), I'll leave room for others
Noot

EDIT= In case Maynard is listening, Opiate just wasn't mastered very well. Needs a producers touch hehe.

Let me put in my plugs...

Tool - excellent band...amazing concerts. Kudos on that rec. My personal fav song is 11 off of Aenima

Here are my recs for some less known bands:
1) The Connells - if you liked old REM, check these guys out. Start with One Simple Word or Ring...their best 2 albums IMHO
2) The Pogues - Drunk Irish guys singing Irish drinking songs. It helps to be drinking Guiness while listening to them, but they are always good.
3) REM pre-1991 - ok, I still own all their albums, but their older stuff is better IMHO. My favorite song of theirs is Carnival of Sorts, off of Chronic town (their first EP)
4) Depeche Mode, the Cure, New Order, Siousxie and the Banshees
5) Real Punk...not the new crap that calls itself punk. I'm talkign Black Flag, Dead Milkmen, Dead Kennedys, Sex Pistols, The Ramones. Stuff you can hit your head into a all too.

And about 100 other great bands, but I am sick of typing now... :D

I Can Feel It - Sloan
Mohammed - The Dandy Warhols

Trimm Trabb - Blur

Nah...just had a run on light rotations. Radiology has been the last 2 weeks...they let you go home at like 4pm, with minimal reading.

Actually, I'm off this week. I start 4th year next Friday...then the hell hits. I will be acting as a first year residnet for a month on a medicine team. On call every 4th night, a serious patient load, and <gasp> responsibility. On the plus side, no test...they just grade on how you do as a physician. Thank god for that...on my last internal medicine grades, I had a 97% clinical evaluation, and about an 80% test score...to be fair, one of the senior residents took the same test and only got an 84%...hard damn test!

And, no, I didn't flunk out...scarily enough, I had honors grades in every rotation this year (only three other people out of 159 pulled that off in my class).

So, to answer your question...Blue.

Christian:
Switchfoot - Life and love and why

Ayumi Hamasaki - Monochrome
Utada Hikaru - Tokyo Love Story
Utada Hikaru - Eternally
Utada Hikaru - Wait and see

Nanase Aikawa - Crying

I'm sure you're all thinking.. Japanese??? wtf???
Yea i know that's sort of weird, the song Wish by Hitomi got it all started, i downloaded that song 2 years ago and it was so unbelievably awesome that i started downloading more. You can tell what the song is about by the music and occasional english words in em. Trust me tho, check out Wish. :)

Well i like most every type of music, with the obvious exceptions of C-rap, metal, acid, punk, and wevertf matchbox 20 is, i guess bad voiced bands.

My brother suggested alot of bands to me and i've liked most every one of them. My bro seems to have very refined tastes in music. He only goes for the cream of the crop ;).

OH and i forgot to add a good song to my list. Another one by Utada Hikaru. Utada is an R&B artist from Japan that uses alot of English in her songs. ALot of her songs have english choruses (spelling?) and a very american feel to em. Anywayz try this song as well if you want (my fav utada song).
First Love - Utada Hikaru
there is also a piano version out there that's pretty good.

Gibb
06-03-01, 02:43 PM
well korn and eminem (imo) have no music talent, they're only popular cause people get their albums to scare their parents and make friends with other 12 year olds who also like to scare their parents.

Nothing all that wrong with MB20 cept that the guy's voice annoys me like a fly buzzin around your windshield when you're driving along. You cant just ignore it and it just wont go the hell away.

and i dont like rap at all. I sort of liked rap back in the late 80's or whenever, when it was still new and pretty decent :)

My bands are really popular as well, in their genres, but they are definately NOT associated with all those whiny punk bands that are the mainstream top bands.

i've been gettin into prog rock lately, i'm gettin so bored of alternative now that every man and his dog has moved in on the scene.

dream theater - most talented band ever assembled, imo.

spock's beard - reminds of gabriel era genesis, and a bit floyd reminisent. damn good stuff.

stratovarius - finnish metal band, the singer has got the most unbelievable voice.

long time faves:

clash
pixies
sting
led zep
floyd
ratm
counting crows
stone roses
james
prefab sprout

i could go on forever

The japanese stuff wont be hard to find at all. In fact it's usually easier to find it than american stuff since american record companies are getting their stuff takin off of mp3 distributing programs, like napster and audio galaxy. But it seems the japanese bands aren't too concerned with it. Most likely because without napster or audio galaxy they would have absolutely NO market in the US. When was the last time you went to Best Buy and picked up a CD by Ayumi Hamasaki? ;)

I really like the UL cd tho. Has quite a few awesome songs.

And a few more english songs:

Poe - Wild
Poe - Haunted by you

Smiths - Draize Train (rank version)(aka live version)

Dido - Take my hand

Fuel - Slow

Guster - Demons

yea plumb is pretty cool
BUT outta all of the christian bands i like they would be my least favorite. There are a few songs i just love by them but there are also quite alot i cant stand.
Their first CD isn't all that good, it's very depressing and dark. The 2nd CD sort of is too but there are 2 or 3 songs that are cheery. Late Great Planet Earth is NOT one of them ;)

Bleach however is pretty damn upbeat. ALl there songs are about love or pleasant life or something to that affect. One of my ultimate fav bleach songs is "All that's sweet". It's this really slow, very simple guitar rhythm love song but it's awesome!
In fact i would consider it as a song to have at my wedding.

To finish off my summarizing..lol
Switchfoot is kind of a mix, some cheery, some dark. Some really weird, some kind of mainstream sounding. And my favorite song by them is one that actually sounds like a dark song at first then turns into an upbeat love song, lol. It's called "Life and Love and Why" If i've already mentioned this song somewhere then sorry bout that :)

Pretty Hate Machine
06-11-01, 03:08 AM
Plumb: Yeah, I think there are a lot of bands out there like that...however, I do like the stuff you recommended. :)

Yeah, I'm gonna download that Bleach track you just mentioned...and as for Switchfoot, they rule! You did mention that track before, I have it here ~ along with "Learning to Breathe", which is amazing. :)

I'm actually gonna trawl the record shops in the centre of town (none near me :(, I live in the middle of nowhere, almost) and see what I can pick up of theirs. :D

Since i blew out the tire on my car i have been driving a truck for the last few days and it doens't have a CD player. Thus i have been forced to listen to the radio :( :( :(
(i despise the radio, i usually only find more blink 182 or greenday to make my ears bleed)
but, i found a station called PowerFM, 89.7... or 87.9, i forget
it's a christian rock station in dallas and it's pretty decent. Heard a couple of cool songs on there and bought a cd of one of hte groups.

Benjamin Gate - All over me
SonicFlood - Open the eyes of my heart
SonicFlood - Carried away

oh and just in case any of you wanted more japanese stuff here are a few more ;)

Hitomi - Forever
Luna Sea - Love Song
The Brilliant Green - You and I (all english but sang by a japanese chick ;))
Megumi Hayashibara - Midnight Blue (megumi is the chick that wrote most all of the songs for the Slayers anime series if you've ever heard of it)
Luna Sea - Millennium (album - shine)
Nanase Aikawa - Lovin' You
Nanase Aikawa - Crying
Ayumi Hamasaki - Key

that's enough for now :)
will take anybody a while to download if they ever want to :)

btw PHM you need to recommend some more songs. I think you've only recommended 2 and i got em and like em.

Dont you have some weird ass obscure stuff over there in limey land? :D
