Oh sweet merciful crap if you like sci-fi, fu<king amazing special effects, and slightly odd Japanese plots, SEE THIS MOVIE!!! IT WAS SO DAMN COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How cool was it? 1.5 hours into the movie, one of my contacts slipped off my iris and went under my eyelid. I wear gas-perm hard contacts. This is the pain equivalent of sticking glass under your eyelid and rubbing it about. The movie was SO good I sat there for a half an hour just so I wouldn't miss anything.
Special effects = A+ - they set a new standard
Plot = B+ - very typical FF type plot...if you played any of the more recent games (especially VII or VIII) this well be patently obvious...especially the ending!
Dialogue = A if you like cheesy one liners (which I do), C- if you don't (why are you even on this board then?)
You owe it to yourself to see this on the big screen. Even if you hate the movie, you should see it just to experience the effects.
I will be seeing this movie again in the theater.

All the newspaper critics gave it terrible reviews, and I'm thinking the whole time...those jackasses, they don't know what they're talking about. Good to hear the correct reviews from gamers.

I liked the movie very much. The animation was breathtaking, simply astounding. It was well worth my $5 to go see it.
Things I didn't like were the off-beat storyline, which was kind of weird for me. I was hoping for a more of Hero/Heroine vs. Main Badguy thing, more like the games. I also didn't like the corny & simple dialogue throughout the movie. It made some of the characters seem dull.
Other than that, I thought it was a great movie and I recommend it to anyone who likes 3D animation or is a fan of the FF games series.

That movie was sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet! The attention to detail was incredible, all the way down to random imperfections in her face. There were some of those scenes that I just said "WOW!, That's CG???" The dialog was a bit lacking at times, but I say so what! Like your not going to get worse with any other action movie of our day. Seriously, thinking about it it's not that bad.
Be prepeared to see the animated likeness of Ben Aflec sporting Alec Baldwin's voice. More than a little creepy I thought at first.
Observation for fans of the games: My wife actually pointed out a striking resemblence in the General (James Woods) and Seifer. Anybody else catch that?

Well it wasn't quite as good as I was told, but worth seeing. The animation was crazy. Only CG can create a bad guy that looks that evil and makes me hate him that much, and an old man who looks more like an old man than an actual old man. I didn't like the main character at all, she seemed out of place, like a soap opera actress in something that requires good acting.
Other than that, the story was simple and repetitive. Didn't expect a great one so watching the action scenes was good enough for me.
I hoped I would see more fighting, like where Aki (sp?) came to the surface and the soldiers followed in the green goo stuff. That was cool :)
I give it 3.5 outta 5 :)'s. Worth seeing.

My wife and I went to see it tonight. I was going to start a thread about it, but I see one already exists.
We both really enjoyed it and neither one of us are into the FF games. Graphics were incredible, I agree. I thought some of it required a fair bit of attention. Music was quite fitting. Several segments of the film were quite majestic and grandiose in magnitude.
Not bad at all, considering I expected worse and I'm a tough guy to please when it comes to movies. It wasn't the best movie in the world, ok, but it sure was worth the movie passes we were given. :)
Definitely check it out. :)

I went and saw it, the CGI was astounding, I kept having to remind myself these were not actual actors, however, some characters looked more realistic than others, for example, the "bad guy" (I do not remember his name off the top of my head), looked rather fake in many scenes, and I do not know if it was the theater, or the movie (I am leaning more toward the movie), but WTF was up with the sound?, every character's voice was muffled, fuzzy, staticy, and after the beginning, some characters started developing lisps, it (the audio) was crap, the beginning showed promise, the middle was a little weird, the end, well, WTF?, alot of it didn't make sense, "we'll have to directly plant the spirits into her chest to save her", um, ok, and some things bugged me, like Aki Ross NEVER changing out of her uniform, damn, I know they wanted to save rendering time, but I would have liked to have seen her in more than that grey jumpsuit throught the whole movie, and the deal with her cleavage, or lack of it, everytime she, or someone else, opened her jumpsuit a little (where normally you would expose a little cleavage), the camera cut away, and what the hell is up with the language?, Grey yelling at a Phantom, "Son of a b-BANG!, BANG!, BANG!, BANG!", the "censoring" of the word "bitch" with the gun fire was so obvious it was painful, what the hell is this?, a movie for adults, or a movie for 13 year olds?, the ending sucked, plain and simple, save the planet, but everyone is dead, (the main characters, anyway), sure, kill a couple off, but ALL of them? (except of course, Aki and the Dr.), that just ****ing sucks, I hate Final Fantasy games, and the only reason I went to see the movie was to see how good it looked, and it did look interesting in one of the trailers I saw, looks good, kind of interesting premise, stupid ass plot, and horrible ending, oh, and 50 years in the future, and they are still using stick-shifts?, lol,
