Anyone who had tried NFS5 with the 7.103 drivers and back would have seen that performance was quite unsatisfactorily.

Kristof had promised a healthy performance boost with the new drivers so I gave the game with the 7.111 version another shot.

It runs a lot better now. What they probably did is trick the application to skip somehow the 3Dsetup, it used to run on the default d3d renderer be4 but now I can´t even enable the application.

Anyway I used all settings maxed except lens flare, and added in the registry "MIPMapThreshold" "5" and could play either 1024x768x32 no FSAA or 800x600x32 2xFSAA (TC on with both) and didn´t have a single glitch anywhere.

I can´t give any accurate benchmarking results due to the known fraps problem but it plays and behaves a lot better now and based on a feeling performance is now right on par with my former v3 3k (176mhz/geometry assist on) if not a bit better (well 32bit instead of 16 and larger textures *ahem*).

But I don´t want to sound ungrateful so the speed increase is definitely there and a big plus.

If anyone´s interested I can throw in some screenshots as soon as I get home :)

I would post some DeusEx screenies too, but with whatever method I try to capture one it comes out dark as hell and no adjustment helps to make it look better ......anyway :)

Ailuros,

Nice screens. I, too, am using the latest drivers, running PU at 12x10x32 with no FSAA. It runs good but I'm still getting artifacts (white pixels) :(.

Can you please give me a detailed explaination of where to put the reg string you posted above?

Thanks

gary

Ailuros,

Nevermind, I just read your other post.

Update:

according to 3dconcept.ch, the speed improvement goes as high as 58% with the latest drivers in NFS-PU.

Of course they used fraps, but are explaining that fraps hinders performance, so any of those results are lower than the real time results w/o fraps.

Here's the old graph from their K2 review:

http://www.3dconcepts.de/reviews/3dprophet4500/nfs.gif

And according to their claims the scores changed with the new drivers in
800x600x32 from 45 to 71 fps and in
1024x768x32 from 35 to 52 fps on the K2.

I actually hit their replay demo ( can be found ---->HERE (http://www.3dconcept.net/files/timedemos/3dcnormandie.zip) ), enabled fraps and "defer render until flip" and Texture Compression in the drivers (3dconcept didn't probably use TC) and here are my quick results.

Those scores can be taken only as indicative, not in comparison with other cards and real-time performance is much higher without fraps on. I just hope the developer of fraps will look into this problem in the near future or someone else will have the courtesy to code a little D3D measuring utility just for kyro's. :)
