Saw this yesterday.

I found this entertaining, and time didn't drag (then again it's only 100 minutes long)

At first I was thinking "MEH!", but as it got on it became ok.

I esp liked the dragon fight and also the flying dragons and the sounds they made, that was all well done.

Anyone know where it was filmed?

I'd give it 6.5/10 (7 is too high:P)

I was kinda looking forward to seeing it and then read the reviews. This thing is bombing in online reviews from the critics to the viewers. I've seen mostly "C" or 5/10 gradings. I guess it's a wait until video one for me.

I got roped into seeing it tomorrow. I guess I'll see this thread again....

I watched a newsbit on Mel Gibson yesterday where he sounded insane, pretty much took back the apology to the Jews about his drunkin' idiocy (and recanted his thoughts about "reaching out" to the Jewish community), and still looked drunk.... I won't be seeing Apocalypto or any Mel production anytime soon.

Glad I didn't read the book first.... It's clearly one of those movies that just screams that the book was better. It's what would happen if you took the LoTR and made it two hours long. The two positives is that the author (who wrote it as a teen) grew up about 4 hours from me in Paradise Valley, MT. The special effects aren't that bad either... just 1995. It reminded me of a wee bit of a cross between Dungeons and Dragons the movie and Dragonheart (1996... and same types of special effects).

It never really pulls you in and it's hard to believe that a farmer boy becomes a dragon rider and then leads an army in war in all of a day...

4.9/10

I actually started laughing at the point where he had his shirt off and asked my girlfriend if she thought the movie was being sponsored by Teen magazine.

I didnt read about no steenken death stars in the books :hmm:

But you did read about how his daddy was once a Dragon Rider but betrayed his order and is now the evil dark lord, right? And how his uncle who was raising him is killed, but the boyish main hero is taken under the guidance of a wise old man who was once a Dragon Rider too and will train him how to be one.

Look, I'm sorry you enjoy reading shit and, as you admitted, are looking forward to that third turd to be published so you can waste more of your time and money, but there's no need to get all defensive about your lack of literary taste.

and Star Wars probably ripped off The Once and Future King....

Modern update to the Arthurian Cycle = pop culture space opera for broken analogies, Alex.

any Hollywood produced, CGI riddled "fable" that's promoted like this thing is gonna be a stinker.

You must spread some reputation around before giving it to Akira again.

I watched it tonight, and it was alright but nothing great. Both of my cousins who I saw it with have read the first two books and hated the movie. They said a lot of stuff was left out and other stuff was added in that wasn't in the books. All in all it was very predictable and if you have read the book I would definitely recommend not seeing this movie.

I heard it blew and the trailers are highly irritating because they say something along the lines of "move over Harry Potter". They lost my ticket sale right there. No sir.

Before I even begin... you get :slap:

reading a wiki summation in no way makes you an authority, so...stfu

The best way to think of the eragon books is this: the story of star wars, in the world of lord of the rings, written like harry potter.

I like the eragon books and I like the Harry Potter books, but they do not lend themselves to film. They harry potter films were bad, but nothing like the steaming pile of rotten shit that the eragon movie was.

For starters, not only is it mentioned explicitly throughout the books, but it is simply common among fantasy canon, Dragons have leathery wings. Dagons with feathers and feathered wings just look stupid

The biggest problem with the eragon movie was this. They give all the horrible actors 99% of the screen time, while all the good actors get left in the dust, Jeremy Irons (slightly less screwed than the others, though never appeared with any other good actors to support him), Djimon Honsou (his anal cavity was pretty well stretched from the hard screwing it was subjected to), John Malkovich (perhaps the hardest fucked out of the three), admitedly, King Galbatorix is never shownmuch in the books, they made a big deal out of casting John Malkovich, and then they give him a minute of screen time...

i've never said this about a movie before, but the costumes were horrible. Eragon, being a farmer, wore clothes which fit him tight around the chest and waist, and had balooning sleeves. anybody in a position of power wore ridiculously elaborate uniforms.
