View Full Version : WinXP and Kyro2
Has anyone tried a Kyro2 in WinXP? I was just curious if there were any (many?) issues with the OS. I have access *ahem* to a copy of XP Corporate Edition, but I don't really want to install it only to find that it is a total POS. Actually, I probably won't install it anyway, as I'm perfectly happy with 98SE.

According to user reports games look a lot better and more stable, yet there's an annoying problem with performance degradation in q3a as an example up to 40%.
Kristof stated that it's some kind of agp memory bug and will be fixed in the next driver update.
Since you don't intend to abandon win9x, experiment with XP. What do you have to lose?
That's true, I really don't have anything to lose. Especially since I have a Ghost image with Win98, that takes about 5-minutes to re-install.
Yes. That's it. I WILL try XP. Why not?
Thank you Swami, for sharing your wisdom <img src="smile.gif" border="0"> .
(Probably do it this weekend, when I have some time.)

Although you can use XP fine with the current drivers, suggest holding off for a little while until the next driver set is released. Games generally lose about 10fps with some slowing down much more than that. Once the next driverset is released, everything should be just fine and give you a much better impression of XP, if you can wait that long.
Well, I installed XP Professional and it didn't recognize my Kyro2. I tried to re-install the drivers (PowerVR 8.X), and got an error:
This set-up program is not compatible with your current version of windows. You need to obtain the WindowsXP version.
Anyone have any ideas?
I did not do a clean install of XP, but rather an upgrade from 98SE.
Nevermind. Picked up the PVR reference drivers for XP. Works fine now.
