Fast & Furious 5 - Fast Five (DVD): More of a heist movie than a car movie and not even the worst heist movie. In fact, out of the series, I think I would place this second (after Tokyo Drift). I appreciated them bringing back characters from the entire series and I feel the only one missing was Lucas Black from the 3rd. Thought they were going to figure out they needed an ace drifter to pull off the drive in the car park, but alas

Urotsukidoji 2 - Legend of the Demon Womb (Download): Haven't come across a genuine version yet and this downloaded one was only just watchable. Anime means a lot of flicker and flickering means bitrate nightmares, so this downloaded .avi went into the unwatchable on several occasions. Hadn't seen the movie in over a decade, ever since I got rid of the VCR basically, and since this was my favorite of the series, I just had to download it. Hope to come across a genuine DVD at some point, but it's hard to get this stuff over here nowadays and the UK is a no-go for more sexually themed anime. It's always chopped up beyond belief. The first one was released here way back when and of course I snagged that whatever the price, but the rest was never released. Only a fraction of the Manga VHS catalogue made it to DVD and the ones that did were already quite rare... ...and not always had bitrates that were any good anyway...

Apollo 18 (DVD): One of my favorites in the found footage genre despite being hated by many. I dunno, it just works for me. It's one of the more logical setups for having all this footage and aging everything to look like footage from that era is done so amazingly well.

Splinter (DVD): Movies like these are why I love low-budget monster movies...

Halloween (TV): The Rob Zombie remake. Halloween was never one of my favorite movies, I just don't like slashers that much, but compared to this tripe, the original was a fucking masterpiece! Seriously, wtf? It takes 45 minutes for 'Michael Myers' to finally show up and I really didn't care seeing him come from a dysfunctional family filled with despicable people. Seriously, I hated that entire opening just because all the white trash in it. Rob Zombie might love white trash (hell, his wife is the best example of that), I don't and I hated all those fucking people and that entire scene of them shouting and cursing and being generally unpleasant. That's another problem with this movie: not caring for any of the characters, not even the main actress. Jamie Lee Curtis was memorable, in the role, as the character and as an actress, this girl... ...I don't even remember what she looked like and I saw the movie last night...

Cashback (TV): TITS! Seriously though, it's a good movie and the nudity sure didn't hinder that...

Super Troopers (TV): You know what, this was actually pretty funny.

Some Guy Who Kills People (Download): Black comedy about a guy... who... kills... people... apparently. Amusing but maybe a bit too slow. The cop however saves the movie with his ironic remarks...

Managed to watch 1 movie while away, on TV

Chasing Amy (TV): An ancient fullscreen 4:3 presentation, which doesn't matter that much with this movie. It's the dialogue that matters and that was very much intact.

Back home I managed to watch 1 movie before I started to fall asleep:

Cleaner (DVD): Bought it for €1. Missed it on TV a while ago because the wife wanted to record something else. For this price I got a perfect second chance and I'm glad I took it because it was a pretty decent thriller. Nothing special but perfectly servicable movie by Renny Harlin...

Amazon Women on the Moon (DVD): Lol, I knew I had to get it when I saw it for €3. I'd heard about it somewhere recently and it stuck into my mind. It's one of those skit movies like Kentucky Fried Movie, which I also like...

Stakeland (DVD): Basically the Road, with vampires (which are nothing more than snarling monsters). Still pretty original take on the genre. Double disc edition came with 30 minutes worth of webisodes that gave all the characters more of a backstory. Pretty interesting movie...

Black Dynamite (DVD): Got it for €3 and it was worth all three of those Euros. Can't believe it isn't more well known (or known at all). Thought it was an hilarious parody movie, unlike those Friedman/Seltzer turds that seems to do great business...

The Dark Knight Rises (Theatre): Pretty decent movie if you ask me. The 3rd movie in trilogies tends to be the weakest, but I don't think that's really the case here. My showing came without audience participation however...

Rise of the Planet of the Apes (DVD): Ace movie. Best of the boxset that contained all PotA movies and the reason I got the boxset in the first place. I'm glad I did get to see all the old movies as well however, they were surprisingly decent and well worth the money...

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (Theatre): Very mixed feelings about this one. I liked the action and the basic story of the movie but I couldn't get around how fake and just plain ugly it looked, almost home-made ugly like they didn't know all the settings of the camera and just went with the default one. It reminded me of those bad fantasy TV-shows like Xena to be honest. This was apparent from the very first minute and only during intense action scenes, at night, could I not get bothered by how it looked. Didn't see it in 3D, but that shouldn't really make a difference on how the movie is lit and shot, I'd think. Bekmambetov made the Night/Daywatch movies and Wanted and they certainly looked OK, but this movie looked off.

Shadow Conspiracy (DVD): Run-of-the-mill '90-ies political thriller that wasn't anything special but certainly wasn't particulary bad either. I didn't mind watching it or paying €1 for it...

Johnny Dangerously (DVD): Yes, the movie we got 'bastige' from. I remembered Slacker referencing the movie when he introduced 'bastige' and I'd come across it on a few occasions on DVD but it didn't look like a movie that was really for me ('30-ies gangsters) and I didn't want to spend a lot of money on it. Last week however, I could have it for €1 and thought why the hell not. If I'm ever gonna get it, this is the chance and you know what? I thought it was hilarious. The entire movie is a goofy comedy/parody with a bunch of great lines. Moroni steals the show as far as quotes go with his "bastidges" and "farging icehole" but there were a bunch of laughs to be had...

Metropia (DVD): Love the animation style in this Danish (but English spoken) animated film about a dystopian society...

Mutant Girls Squad (DVD): These Japanese splatter movies are hit'n'miss, this one... ...a hit. Not as awesome as Tokyo Gore Police, but better than Machine Girl and countless others. Chainsaw out of the ass, katana nipples and tiny little arms coming out of a girl's head (seriously), this movie has it all...

Vacuuming Completely Nude in Paradise (TV): Crazy performances by the leads, especially the Harry Potter dude, who shines as this insane hoover salesman in quite an insane (TV) movie by Danny Boyle. Keyword: insane...

The Steam Experiment (DVD): As bad as I expected it to be but I needed 5 DVDs for the 5 for €5 deal and this was the 5th. I'd hoped to maybe be proven wrong but I wasn't. Your typical bad thriller that's too convoluted for its own good and looks pretty bad as well. Oh well...

Super 8 (DVD): Ace movie. I haven't been able to stay awake with any movie the entire week (I'm trying to get back into night rhythm, which is always a disaster), with the exception of this movie, which is a testament to its greatness...

The Final Cut (DVD): Another from the €1 pile and not as bad as feared. It's a concept thriller and the concept ain't bad. It certainly had its moments but it started to fall apart somewhat near the end...

Wristcutters - A Love Story (TV): Enjoyable road movie in a suicide limbo (a place where only people who killed themselves go). At first glance doesn't seem to have anything I look for in a movie but it was actually a very enjoyable little indie movie with a bunch of quirky little moments...

Super Troopers, the first and best of Broken Lizard. I love that terrible, terrible movie. "Canada, huh? ALMOST MADE IT."

Super 8 is The Goonies, E.T., and The Monster Squad all rolled up in one. Little long, but fantastic movie.

The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (TV): Strange second half but pretty good overall. I hadn't expected to like it as much as I did.

Then I tried watching The Last Legion but switched it off after 20 minutes for being complete crap.

New Jack City (TV): '80-ies gangsta classic that held up pretty well for the most part.

The Ape (TV): Little indie movie by and starring James Franco as a troubled writer that moves to the city to write but ends up with a gorilla as a roommate. Quirky dark comedy with some great lines. Noticed a lot of familiar names from Kevin Smith's entourage on the credits like Dave Klein, Scott Mosier and Zak Knudson...

Detention (Download): Torque's Joseph Kahn (or Khan, not sure) strikes back with this energetic slasher/time travel/teen comedy/Donnie Darko mishmash that's all over the place and filmed in this music video/commercial style that actually suits the movie pretty well. Funny stuff. Worth checking out if you can stomach 90 minutes worth of music videos...
