Black Mesa Nearing Completion, Trailer Released

Quote:
Today, the Black Mesa Team released an impressive trailer for their remake of Half-Life . The remake is a total-conversion mod for Half-Life 2, bringing the updated graphics and AI of the Source engine to the original game. The team has been dropping hints lately that the project, which began in 2004, is almost done, and the trailer confirms that it will be out in 2009. They also recently announced that they've "dropped Counter-Strike: Source as a requirement for Black Mesa, and from now on, the only thing you'll need to play the mod is a Steam account with any Source engine game installed! Black Mesa is now running completely off of our own content and base Source shared content, and we felt the vastly increased user base more then [sic] justified creating all the extra assets needed to make this switch."

The wait was just long enough for all kinds of crazy bets to be made, but time to cash those in, because the Black Mesa Trailer is good to go and up for viewing! You can download it from a few different places, or watch it on youtube. We hope this gives you a small taste of what the game will be like, and we hope it was worth the extra wait!

We also forgot to include some great Power Up shots by Kim Dahlgren, so be sure and check those out on our media page! This officially concludes our media release, but not future updates! And as stated in the trailer, the days this mod stays in development are truly numbered. Hang tight, because at long last, it is coming.

I tried to download the 720p trailer, but when I click on it, it takes me to a blank page. Then, I tried to save the link and it downloads nothing.

So I just watched it on Youtube and I was still blown away.

Neato. That would certainly make me want to play Half Life 1 through a 5th (or so) time...

Playing Black Mesa
Q. What will I need in order to play Black Mesa?

A. The only requirement to play Black Mesa will be that you own any Source Engine game on Steam. For a detailed list see here.
Q. How much will Black Mesa cost?

A. Black Mesa is a free modification; The developers will never charge you for playing mainly because we wouldn't want to make people pay to play, but also because it would be illegal to do so. As long as you have a copy of any source engine game on steam, Black Mesa will cost you nothing.

I was one of the skeptics. I firmly believed Half Life 3 would come out before this game so I stopped paying attention to it. Looks to be a very good modification. Can't wait to play this.

Now that I mention HL2 and epi1, I should have a look at epi2, hoping the price on that has come down as well, what with a few weeks of vacation coming up...

LOL you'll beat EP2 in about 6 hours and still have weeks of vacation left to fill. But seriously EP2 is about my fav venture into the HL universe since HL1.

I never lost hope for Black Mesa, but I just kinda forgot about it... Until Babel posted this thread. And I was finally able to get the 720p trailer (even though it's on RapidShare, which i consider the devil).

I am really looking forward to this mod.

Bear in mind, I've also pimped 1408 and Killing Zoe (I think) and we know how that worked out for a few of us. lol

I am SO looking forward to this. I never completed HL but I wasn't far off. I enjoyed every single minute of that game, and HL2 just about made the followup. Can't fuckin wait.

Dude, just get the orange box. Totally worth it. If you can run HL2 (or EP1), you'll have no problem running anything in the orange box.

I don't care for anything in the orange box except for the Epis and I already have Epi1 (bought it quite cheap too due to a special promotion and an insanely low $ back then)...

And to be honest, I'd rather play through Half-Life 1 again than play anything HL2-related...
