Two good Wii games in one week! (Punchout/BoomBlox:BP)

I picked up Punchout on release day

First impression:
Glass joe, easy
Von Kaiser, easy
so on so forth...
Great Tiger, *@#%%

once you get to great tiger the game starts to challenge you.

I was actually expecting it to be more like Super Punchout than the Original, but alas, it is more like the Original.

Nobody new for the Grand Champion

They added challenges to each character in exhibition mode like TKO Great tiger in 3 punches, or Knock glass joe down 3 times but lose by decision. And even more challenges when you unlock Title Defender mode and Mac's Last stand mode.

Also, the multiplayer is actually functional. Much better than WiiSports boxing.

I give it an 8 over all.

Boox Blox: Bash Party

If you haven't played the original...you can just jump straight into the new one, because there is no story really..it's just blox...Jenga type games and puzzles. Multiplayer is the best part of this game but there is plenty of single player games as well. Oh and you can create your own levels and upload them to your friends...the download system sounds to be similar to that of LBP(ps3). If you want a game to entertain a bunch of people that aren't always game savvy, this is a good one, if they know what they're doing it's a great one.

I give it a 7

Still stuck on the notion of "Good Wii Games"...having trouble getting my head wrapped around it...

The first Boom Blox was greatness, and one of my favorite Wii games.

I'm leaning more and more this way lately. Seems Nintendo's consoles today are mostly good for the franchise titles for me. I had a $10 off coupon for any Wii game at Target the other day. I sat there depressed that there wasn't a single freaking game that I actually wanted to buy.

Its not without a certain amount of confidence that I remember saying this:

The Wii will have pretty good first party software, and will have absolutely ass third party software.

The Wii controls are difficult to develop for, and tend to come off more as a gimmick and less like intuitive movements.

Yes, Nintendo tried something bold and different, but was it too different?

I take it you have never played this game before if you believe that Great Tiger is anything other than a pushover. Hell, if you know when to hit him, you can knock him to the mat in one punch! My trouble starts with Soda Popinski.

actually i played this game a lot. but not nearly as much on punchout as i did on super punchout (sans G tiger)...i remember great tiger from MTPO, but they changed up his moves so i had to untrain myself to re-learn his new reactions.
