The movie was excellent. Of course, the book portrays the event more accurately.

Gas Can and I went to see it last night....I thought it was a pretty dang good movie....I don't really know much about the atual event so I don't know how true-to-life it was...but I liked it....it was an almost 3 hour movie, and it went by pretty fast it seemed.....there were some parts that were a bit graphic/bloody....but they weren't too bad...and besides, that's what happens in combat...overall, I loved it and give it 3 thumbsup!
![]() P.S. I don't see how/why people thought it was racist?? |

The fact the movie was set in Africa made this pretty difficult to avoid...

I saw the movie, thinking at first that it'd turn out to be "just another war movie", and I am *not* the war movie type.. but I actually enjoyed it! Sure, it was graphic at times, but that only proved to enhance the real feeling of it. Two thumbs up!

Having read the book, watched the 2 hour HIstory Channel special on the events complete with inteviews of both US soldiers and Somali militia, and having seen the movie twice, I have to say that this was by far the best war movie I have ever seen in regards to accuracy and content. I was truly impressed. I will probably see it again on the big screen, and will DEFINITELY buy it on DVD when it comes out.

I missed the special on the history channel. I really wanted to it but I had a date. I know just a little about what really happened, but was it that the delta force had incorrect intelligence about the situation at had . I dont remember why we were there in the first place. I just recall the horrible scenes on the news of those people dragging the naked body through the streets. The video tape of the captured soldier denounicing the us. In other words why dsid we get our asses kicked so bad? I didn't see it yet , I will though. I was just wondering . if anyone has more details on the sad situation. thanks

I liked it because the fighting was realistic.
In most movies RPGs will hit next to someone and blow them up. In BHD this didn't happen which is realistic. "Don't shoot next to my head!" "Look out!" Bang bang bang "What did I just tell you!" |

I ain't seen the movie but I did see a documentary about it ages ago... Dunno if it's the same one youz are talkin' about... It was some crazy shit, 'soldiers' leaning round corners using the patented 'Spray & Pray' technique, grenades landing next to peeps feet... Nasty.

Why did the Army and Special Forces get their asses kicked so bad? Because the Powers that Be in Washington didn't want to create a controversial firestorm if they had sent in the troopers in Bradley Fighting Vehicles with full Air support.
Driving around in a city, in glorrified jeeps with armor barely strong enough to stop the rifle rounds that were being tossed at them, being chased by hundreds of heavily armed (albiet, poorly trained) civilian fighters with nothing but hatred and time to toss every round in their possession in the general direction of the convoy meant that by the law of averages, someone in the convoy was going to be hit. The fact that they kept being driven in circles by their overhead command team didn't help matters, as it just gave the enemy more time to fire, reload, and fire some more. The armor didn't stop bullets as much as it sent them bouncing around inside the cabins if when they penetrated. The US was lucky to have escaped from that fiasco with as few casualties as they did.

We dont use jeeps chum...Humvees yb obviously you didnt read all the book....the author explained that the Force Commander did not ask for any Bradleys or Tanks in His Force Package. Did not have anything to do with Washington at all. wasnt Special Forces you dweeb it was Army Rangers and Delta Force. maybe a few Seals thrown in. Delta Force is designed as a quick in and out team. They dont use Bradleys and such schiznit as Tanks. Niether do the Rangers in this type of operation. The original mission to Somalia was changed to grab the warlords. The failure was to take into account that there the RPGs were a definite danger to the choppers...plus the raid was conducted in broad daylight. The SOAR pilots are used to flying in darkness which is when the operation should have been conducted. The breakdown on finding the choppers was the fact that messages had to be relayed from the Navy Recon Planes to the C2 choppers..by the time this happened they had missed turns.....
