iTunes Fans! (aka Flash) Some updates tonight to iTMS

I just grabbed one of those songs by Snow Patrol and it popped up with an updated agreement. It listed a few new things on there:

- Listen to iMixes

- Free single of the week (sweet! Although I'm not betting it'll be anything I like)

I also noticed you can now browse through the music videos in a seperate section, and they added movie trailers. Cool!

Update! iTunes 4.5 is available now. You can burn CD labels with it now.

There are a few other cool things to check out as well, but I had to come to this work place so I'll check 'em out tonight.

Word!!!!! I am going through the whole thing now, very cool, I made a lot of suggestions they are using now, not saying I want credit but cool to know I think along the same lines. I think the expanded number of computers per account is awesome, Apple loss less is a great codec but not compressed enough. I used it on a album that at 160 aac took up 73.5 meg, using the Apple loss less it took up like 385 meg lol. Sounded great though.

Can you link to machines two the same library yet? In other words, does it have active monitoring of the library folder?

I'll find out tonight - but I wouldn't hold my breath, I haven't read anything like that.

ETA: Nevermind I'll just check now.

I don't see anything like that Nooter. As you know you can share your library over the network, but AFAIK one person has to be the one to update it and manage playlists and what not.

I can't imagine they even consider Media Player as competition. So MP checks the folders when you open it to see if there is anything new there? That would take a while on mine (going through 3500 songs).

I know you can share the library with multiple users on the same computer, I am thinking if you set up the source folder as a shared folder you could manage it as well. No sync between multiple machines yet.

Hey Nooter, Apple has to let MS have something, we already have a better OS in general and better apps for the most part, we throw them a feature or two for the time being... /me runs

How are all those games you can play on a Mac working out for you? Real good I'll bet.

what Macs lose in games they excel in reliablity, productivity, and ease of use. something i have yet to find in any windows workstation. We still have 7 year old power mac 5500's that work like the day we bought them. but i dont want to get in a flame war here so ill just STFU

I know this is what people say, but I have had exactly the opposite experience. Our Macs are slower and more expensive then their PC counterparts. They take twice as much memory to run as effieciently, and when something breaks better bust out the Amex card. Total cost of ownership is ungodly high.

Until OSX came along it was a crash happy beast of an OS. Can't count the number of hours of lost work from having to restart and pick up from the last save. It got to be standard practice to keep our thumb and finger on command-S saving every 5 minutes.

Now, I'm no Mac hater, but I don't think they are the friggin savior of the computer industry either. I just think they have more than their fair share of problems that Mac Fanatics seem to like brushing over.

All that being said, I haven't really had the chance to sit down and dig into OSX. I always found Macs to be better at media creation types of activities, be it page layout design or image editing... Final Cut Pro just owns... etc. I wish we had the money to go pop on all new native software instead of fooling around with classic. I seriously doubt management will decide to go for that though.

*yawn* its not like there are no games for mac, there are more on windows. But consoles are better gaming platforms in my opinion especially with online capabilitys now and in future systems. I have a xbox, ps2 and gc so I am good to go for games. Windows runs more games and software, but I can do the same stuff beyond games on my mac. I do suppose that if one wanted to show how dominant Windows is with software we could look at Viruses and how many run on a windows platform and how there are 0 for OS X right now.

Same goes for Linux, there are even professional type OSS applications that beat the ones consumer available for Windows (ReZound, anyone?)

See? Not even Virus writers support Macs.

Update! iTunes 4.5 is available now.
So I launch iTunes (PC) and go to the Help menu and select "Check For iTunes Updated" and iTunes responds with "This version of iTunes (4.2) is the current version. I go to the iTunes site and there, very prominently displayed, is the "GET YOUR iTUNES 4.5 NOW!" banner.

For some reason all of apples updates take at least a day to get into there autoupdate system. My mac didnt show any updates either but sure as shit there it was. it pisses me off when they do that for point and security updates.
