Building a new PC, suggestions?
lol yea I know, mac guy building a PC but I did it for a while and need to have a windows box just to mess around with, I am a computer dork and like to maintain my windows knowledge. I am probably going to install Linux on it as well, but I figured I would ask you guys what would be a good system.
First I am not doing any gaming on this system, if I do Ill pick up a video card later. I am just thinking of going integrated everything for the time being, again this is going to be a box I can just mess around with and not do any real work with (I have my Macs for that lol). I was thinking of going the AMD route with one of their new 64 bit chips. I already have a monitor and keyboard, I just need suggestions for the actual box. I am looking at spending at most a 1000 bucks or less so I feel for my purposes thats more than enough. So any thoughts or suggestions would rock, I was thinking maybe some kind of nForce board?

Almost anything would work for you. If you go A64 the VIA chipset is faster, for what that's worth.
Mobo; $100 http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...uctCode=240796 A64 2800+; $170 http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...Code=80697-OEM Case/450 watt; $90 http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...uctCode=142804 Memory 2x512 PC3200; $182 http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...ctCode=80098-7 HDD Seagate 8 MB 120 GB 7,200 $97.00 http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...uctCode=101553 Optical Drive Liteon 4x DVD-RRW/+RRW 85.00 http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...uctCode=170616 Floppy Drive Mitsumi $15.00 http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...uctCode=110402 Video Card Celestica Radeon 9600XT $160.00 http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...uctCode=325053 That's $900. You can find evreything cheaper someplace else. Just picked up a nice little BenQ (Acer) 8x/4x Dual DVD burner for llike $70 shipped from mwave.com, they got some nice prices. You can build a nice little system for a grand now days. Skip the 9600XT for some 64 MB cheapie and throw in a monitor and Windows and still be under a grand.

Opus gave you some great choices but I would buy an Asus MB over the Gigabyte board he suggested for only $4 more.
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...uctCode=240407 Also, you probably can do without a full Gb of system RAM, 512Mb will be fine for your uses. http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...tCode=80093-22

That's funny. I don't need to build a mac for other uses.
