Dolby decoders?
What's the best overall decoder for a stereo system? The Klipsch Promedia 5.1 Ultra's that i ordered (should be here wednesday) have no digital decoder on them, which is fine and dandy for the computer since it already decodes it, but, on consoles and DVD's on a tv, they kind of don't work as well.
I have no experiance with any decoders, but, i would like a decoder that can probably decode any shit i throw at it, haha. Quality is nice, but as long as it's pretty well-built and user-friendly and preferably cheap (I've seen some for 200+$ no way, lol.) since i just paid 350$ for speakers. Any suggestions? I've looked at Klipsch and Creative so far... Klipsch's decoder does everything EXCEPT nintendo.... which... i just happen to have a gamecube, so... that doesn't work.

Klipsch sells a DD decoder, I believe. It fits in a 5.25" bay. Check their website.
And Yamaha makes a few external soundcards that do both DD 5.1 and DTS decoding, but sadly, they are incompatible with powered speakers for some reason.

*edit* Actually, I don't think it's for a 5.25" bay, it's close to the size of a normal reciever, but it's a stand-alone Dolby decoder. It's probably pretty affordable.

Yea, that Klipsch speaker set sure does look awesome, you made a very good move there, Trippy!
I think I might get that now, but I'm also thinking about getting 5.1 home theater speakers and a reciever with an SPDIF in on the back. Have my computer's audio going through to that. ![]()

Umm, if the Lipsch decoder will do Dolby ProLogic 2, Dolby Digital, and DTS then it does everything you could need. N64/Gamecube don't need to be decoded really. The audio they put out is raw analog that can be processed using the ProLogic1/2 algorithm into psuedo 5.1
